Warm welcome from the proprietor and sat right next to a roaring log fire. During our stay other customers including a large family booking were also greeted warmly. We had a lovely pint of black sheep and a fantastic lunch. Steak and kidney pie, belly pork and a burger were much more refined than your average pub grub. Desert offered... More

My grandma booked this place for us to have lunch- and I was a bit tentative as I'm vegan and normally non-chain restaurants haven't even heard of vegans haha, but she told them in advance that I was. My meal was absolutely incredible, they'd gone to such effort to make me a gorgeous aubergine roast thing with a side of... More

Stopped here for lunch yesterday on our way to Robin Hood's Bay. As we had our dog with us, we sat outside although my husband was told we could bring the dog inside as long as he sat under the table. It was a beautiful sunny day so we decided to stay outside. My husband said the beer he had... More

We ended up at this place as i had a problem with my car on the way home from a few nights away in Whitby. We thought we would order some tea while we waited for the AA. As we went to sit down we were told all the tables were reserved . They only had one table available. We... More

We have just had a very quick lunch here. We felt very welcome with our energetic little boy, a box of toys was given to him to play with. The food was all lovely; in lovely olde England pub surroundings. The fire was lovely too on this cold rainy day.

This is a tiny little Yorkshire village pub with an extension, formerly the byre, which houses the restaurant. There are about half a dozen tables so I'd advise booking if you can at weekends. The menu is delightful with very tempting dishes and a specials board. The staff who we encountered were all very friendly and helpful and the restaurant... More

Excellent friendly staff. Delicious food. Lunch time menu not a full selection. No starters or chicken and limited fish choice. We both chose steak pie and that was truly yummy. Evening menu complete with specials looks excellent

We had only one meal at The Wheatsheaf, alas, but it was memorable in every way. The spacious and well furnished dining area and the attentive and friendly service are pluses in themselves, but the great joy of eating here is the excellent choice on the menu and the sheer quality and inventiveness of the food. The nut roast, for... More
