Although we have had a few drinks in The Wheatsheaf before, this was our first visit for a meal. Our expectations were high, as guests at our holiday accommodation had visited and really enjoyed the meal. We both had lamb, which fell off the bone, with lovely vegetables , and a delicious sauce. Excellent value, with both main courses,a pint... More

For English dining at its most fabulous, go here. Reservations are a must because the dining room is always fully booked. The menu is simple; roast beef, roast pork or roast lamb with vegetables. Dessert selection is simple too. Just order everything to save time 😊. Outstanding menu in an outstanding restaurant.

We are blessed with quite a few nice pub places to eat in this part of the world but this place is really excellent. Just back from lunch here , mid week and the place was fully booked - which says it all. Very interesting and inviting menu, cheerful efficient service and really good food which has a sophistication nod... More

Stopped here March 8/9 for wedding anniversary. This was pleasantly different to what I expected. A friendly welcome,Our room was actually in a more or less self contained cottage tagged onto the end of the pub. It consisted of a large sitting room, coal fired, tv etc and comfy three piece suite, adjoining it was a large kitchen with a... More

Husband said 'best food he's ever eaten" :o). Went with friends and all of our children for early evening meal. Our waiter was lovely and very helpful with food choices - we all really enjoyed our meals with clean plates all around! Lovely room and atmosphere, really tasty food, generous portions and very friendly service.

Love the place, great for Sunday lunch you need to book! No if's but's maybe's you will only get in if you book. Harsh but true. The food is excellent, love the veg as best selection and taste for any Sunday lunch that I have ever had including mums! Traditional yorkshire pub landlord takes no messin but he is a... More

We first visited the Wheatsheaf back in March 2012 after stumbling across it on our first visit to the North Yorskhire Moors area & were delighted by the food. We visited again in September 2013 and thankfully booked before we went up. That is the most important tip I can give, please book ahead to avoid disappointment, we saw 3... More

Dropped into this delightful place whilst driving around the North Yorkshire Moors, for lunch. Was very very impressed by the food, the wonderfully welcoming staff, in fact all in all a fabulous place. Was made to feel at home by both the staff and the locals. Would definitely recommend.

We booked the cottage next to the pub with friends of ours (4 adults; 4 children) and from start to finish the weekend was simply fantastic. We were very warmly welcomed on Friday night and we didn't even have to walk outside to get to the pub for a few excellent pints of Landlord before tea. The kids settled in... More
