Afternoon Tea in the Drawing Room at Matfen Hall is a wonderful experience. The room itself is cosy, traditional and relaxed. At this time of year (late November) it's especially nice with the beautifully decorated Christmas Tree and other festive decorations around the lovely room. The views out across the golf course are splendid with its great expanse of greenery,... More

This was our fourth stay and probably the best - there had been slight issue with service previously. Our room (deluxe) was very large and warm with plenty of space for the two dog beds we take with us for our Labradors. We ate in the Library restaurant each night and no menu change at all for the three nights... More

A sneaky two night mid week break for £150 in a standard room with breakfast for a couple - yes please. A great base for Xmas shopping in Newcastle, Corbridge and the Metro Centre if that floats your boat. Initial impressions I have to say weren't great. Their was a air of a slightly up market old peoples home and... More

From the moment we arrived until the minute we left, our stay albeit short, was most relaxing. Although I originate from Northumberland it was the first time I have stayed in the Hall and it proved to be a lovely experience.

It was a Groupon deal and was probably the best we've had from them... amazing value for money, 4 star accommodation at b&b prices! From the first phone call right through to checking out this was a very stress free and enjoyable 3 days, the standard rooms are in fine fettle with plenty of space and really comfortable beds. Best... More

We stayed in a deluxe room (33) which was spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed (no view). Dinner was very good, breakfast was great with a view to die for. Golf courses (there are 3 nines, all par 36) are well kept and interesting and there's a 9 hole par 3 course for less experienced players (a 3 minute drive away).... More

This place really has the wow factor if you judge it by the cover, what an impressive building and gardens, initially visited the hotels open day prior to staying, and to sell it they really do put on a show, staff were so welcoming, and friendly quite a buzzing atmosphere... Then when I stayed recently for a couple of nights... More

My husband and I booked a night here to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We stayed in a classic room which was very nice and comfortable. We had dinner in the library restaurant, the food was exceptional and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The spa facilities are great - very relaxing! The building is amazing - it really... We recently stayed 2 nights and booked one night through a Daily Telegraph offer and the second night as part of a group booking. This caused some confusion with the receptionist as to whether we could stay in the same room for 2 nights. This was resolved satisfactorily. The grounds and first appearance of the property are good. The room... More
