We used this hotel after we had spent the day at Alton towers it wasnt easy to find as the sign was just about covered in a big carvery advert the carpark was not sign posted so we drove past that twice. The only plus about this place was the nice friendly blonde lady on reception very helpful. The stairs... More

The George Hotel was incredibly good value for money. The staff were very friendly, efficient and hard working. My sons and I used it as a base when visiting Alton Towers and Waterworld. We dined in the hotel on the Thursday evening when they have their steak night which gets you two 8oz steaks (choice of Sirloin or Rib Eye)... More

Returned to hotel around 10pm, again staff on reception very welcoming. No room in carpark so had to park on street paying £1 till 9am, I had no issues but... More

After reading the reviews I did nt know what to expect. Stayed one night. Car parking , very small awkward area. Reception , friendly and ok. Room , clean but shabby , everything poor quality and basically in need of renewal and decoration. The areas of the hotel I went in , basically from Reception to the Room were in... More

We booked for one night for a family party nearby. I had read other reviews, but as other family members had already booked The George, we decided it would be easier to all be in one place. I whole heartedly agreed that, for the money, the Premier not too far away would have been a better option. You generally know... More

Arrived late as had traveled down from Scotland. First impression was "What have we let ourselves in for", Staff friendly enough and checked in quickly, on way to our room, we found the decor dated to say the least with stair carper threadbare in places. There was also that mould smell you get whe carpets are not clean. Room was... More

I would recommend a stay at the George it is friendly and excellent service and well placed for accessing all parts of the city. Whether business or pleasure this hotel is excellent. The bar area is large and can offer some private seating if needed.

I had booked three rooms, as we were a party of ten. I have never written such a bad review about anything, and this is a first. Place is really run down and very unclean, very minimal parking (both size and number). Location is opposite another pub and in town. When one family went in to their room, they found... More

The George desperately needs a face lift. Extremely helpful staff, free Wi-Fi, nice fresh linen and affordable food are no compensation for worn stair carpets, damp stains on walls, broken bathroom fittings, non-functioning TVs and a general air of neglect. Some sensible investment could return The George to its 1920's splendour again.

Stayed for one night only while visiting a friend. The hotel is an older Victorian style, clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I had booked a single ensuite room which was ok sized and the bathroom was nicely appointed. Breakfast was included, you can’t beat a full English! I booked through bookings.com and got a good deal.... More
