Stayed here for a night in November. What a lovely place to stay. Great staff and service, good beer in the bar, fantastic food in the restaurant - just sorry our stay was only for one night. The room was lovely, and the walk in shower just what I wanted. Isolated in the middle of the moors might not be... More

Whilst visiting my son we, along with my 11 year old grandson, decided to have a run out to the moors. The morning started with glorious sunshine until the unpredictable moors mist descended. At 11.30 we decided to have coffee at the Lion and were very pleased we did. The mist was bone numbing so we asked about the soup... More

A group of friends booked a night at this wonderful pub/hotel. We found the staff charming, helpful, the food fantastic and plentiful, the rooms mega comfortable and the value for money great. With the log fires burning and the wind outside howling, there is a good feeling of well being ,a great place to get away from it all for a while.

Went at tea time on a dull and windly Sunday. The Lion was very busy and we had to go backwards anbd forwards looking to find a table. Service was pretty quick considering how busy things were. My husband had T bone and I had battered haddock. The steak was okay, but had a line of gristle in it. The... More

Having visited the ten highest pubs in England my husband decided that because one of them was now closed, we really had to visit the eleventh. A late weekend break in October on top of the North Yorkshire moors could have been a disaster, but this pub is an absolute gem. The food is excellent and varied you can eat... More

We were booked at the Lion Inn on our coast to coast walk. According to friends who were there with us, my husband and I had the "honeymoon suite" as we had a room at the end of the hall (don't ask me which wing) with a canopy bed and an updated bathroom. Apparently not all of the rooms are... More

Like most Coast to Coast walkers I we took a break at this hotel . What a rip-off. We ordered a cup of coffee with an extra shot and were charged English pounds 1.90 for the extra shot bringing the total "cup" cost to Pds 4.15 or more than USD 6. No one likes to be gouged - we were.

We visited The Lion Inn last weekend whilst doing a cycle route in Kirkbymoorside. We parked the camper van outside the pub and stayed for the weekend. The food is of a very high standard with a wide variety of dishes to choose from and mouthwatering specials (I got the fillet steak medallions with blue cheese sauce which was cooked... More

We stayed here for one night whilst walking the Coast to Coast; we were tired and hungry and our evening meal was very good (although far more than we could eat). Our room was great until we went to bed and found the mattress was really uncomfortable; it felt as though the springs were coming through and we ended up... More

We were checked in around 1 pm which was appreciated. Room 10 is a converted storeroom/office immediately above the bar restaurant, and you can hear every word that is said by patrons below. We immediately asked to change rooms, but none were available. There is nothing insulating the ceiling/floor so it was a nightmare of a stay.
