This makes a wonderful stop on the C2C walk. After rambling about for a day on the moors you spot the Lion Inn in the distance out in the middle of nowhere. The low beamed warm chattering pub is very welcome. Your rooms are tucked away in the back and functional but not luxurious. The food is fine but I'd... More

We have stopped at this pub for Sunday lunch on a few occasions when out and about on the moors. Always friendly staff and plentiful, if not gourmet, food. My husband booked a one night stay as a birthday treat on Friday 17th April. Room 12 was lovely, clean and modern with a very comfy bed and stunning views over... More

The Lion is a rambling old historic inn in the midst of the wild North Yorks Moors. There is practically nothing else for at least five miles (and generally ten) in every direction, so if you are fancying an urban break, this is DEFINITELY not for you. Think Jamaica Inn, only without the sinister smuggling uncle and cold floors ....... More

The staff were welcoming and our room was lovely, with hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee - very welcome on a windy weekend. Our evening meal was really good - no quibbles whatsoever, and the chips were great -but we couldn't manage a dessert! We will definitely go back again.

Stayed 2 nights in Feb, ate in once. For: Rooms are small with so little space you have to walk sideways to get past the bed etc, but they are ultra quiet, very comfy & clean. Its amazing to walk only a few paces from your room & find yourself in a time-warp ancient pub! Beer is superb, wonderful coal... More

The postal address of Kirkbymoorside is misleading. The Lion is so far out in the sticks it feels as though you are walking on the roof of Yorkshire. Don't let that put you off if you are looking for a great inn that does wholesome pub food. The beer is kept in ace condition and the staff are really excellent... More

We have just returned from an over night stay, and I am really disappointed with our experience. The room was ok, the staff were fine but the food was awful. Although the portions are huge I think everything was frozen and tasteless. What a let down, quality rather than quantity needs to be addressed here.

Not our first visit nor will it be our last! We travel here most years and enjoy the cosy comfort of the hotel, warm and welcoming bars and staff. The food is excellent, good quality, perfectly cooked and very generous portions - still have to clear our plates... Always a good selection of good real ales. I keep hoping to... More

Having stayed at the Lion on many occasions we decided to take my parents for a meal last Saturday. We, and they were not disappointed - beer superb as normal and the food excellent - only sorry that we were not staying there for longer - May be next time!

Just returned from a bar meal and drinks and have to say that having visiting the place for many years can say that it has become very below par as.time has gone on. We all had different meals and found that they were all very overpriced and tasteless for what you pay. They did appear very processed and presentation was... More
