Agree with all comments we read concerning this remote gem . If there is an heaven this should be the gates !!! Great food & accommodation (although the "small twin room was small) .Ideal location for good walks and we loved (11 of us) the choice of draught beers . Advice to anyone thinking of having a starter for your... More

Seeing the Lion Inn on the horizon was such a treat. It was a cold and windy day and stepping into this 400 year old building was heavenly. The greetings were warm and the rooms, pub, food and people warmed our hearts. We loved the low ceilings and seeing locals as well as travelers mixing in the many rooms. We... More

Absolutely impressed with this 500 year old Inn, Pub and restaurant. Beautiful beams running across the ceiling and the fire places that make it a really cozy atmosphere. We had a room that included a canopy bed and fabulous NEW bathroom. Our friends got th#14 suite, you might want to ask for it.

Having stayed at Lion Inn many times over the years, we eagerly await each stay. It seems to appear out of nowhere when walking from Clay Bank and is always a most welcome sight. The ambience is outstanding and so welcoming after a long walk in often cold and rainy weather. Fireplaces inside to warm you up and a fabulous... More

After a long cold walk the Lion's Inn was very welcoming. We enjoyed drinks by the fire. The food was okay but much more like a standard hotel versus other B and B's we had stayed at on the coast to coast walk. Rooms comfortable but nothing really special. Clean.

10 of us, 6 adults, 4 children had Sunday lunch. The meal seemed expensive but when it came I could see why - it was massive. If we had known the size we wouldn't have had a starter - but then we would have missed the soup which was delicious. Food was well cooked but with the meal being so... More

This makes a wonderful stop on the C2C walk. After rambling about for a day on the moors you spot the Lion Inn in the distance out in the middle of nowhere. The low beamed warm chattering pub is very welcome. Your rooms are tucked away in the back and functional but not luxurious. The food is fine but I'd... More

We have stopped at this pub for Sunday lunch on a few occasions when out and about on the moors. Always friendly staff and plentiful, if not gourmet, food. My husband booked a one night stay as a birthday treat on Friday 17th April. Room 12 was lovely, clean and modern with a very comfy bed and stunning views over... More

The Lion is a rambling old historic inn in the midst of the wild North Yorks Moors. There is practically nothing else for at least five miles (and generally ten) in every direction, so if you are fancying an urban break, this is DEFINITELY not for you. Think Jamaica Inn, only without the sinister smuggling uncle and cold floors ....... More

The staff were welcoming and our room was lovely, with hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee - very welcome on a windy weekend. Our evening meal was really good - no quibbles whatsoever, and the chips were great -but we couldn't manage a dessert! We will definitely go back again.
