I visited the George and dragon last new year for our New Years eve get together with some friends, I didn't stay at the hotel but visited those who were staying. We had a lovely lunch in the front bar, food was great, fireplace and very atmospheric! Warm- the staff were amazingly welcoming and friendly, really enjoyed myself. That evening... More

We stayed here for a really special few days last winter. We absolutely loved discovering this little Yorkshire gem. We were highly recommended to stay here by others who had stayed here also, and we would absolutely recommend this to anyone staying with the area. The George and Dragon has a really fantastic blend of period features, a host of... More

Ours was a two night, late December, Groupon stay with breakfast each morning. One of our party can't do stairs so we were allocated rooms one and two on the ground floor across the courtyard where the smokers gather to puff away. Our room, number one, smelt fusty when we were first shown in as if it hadn't been aired... More

Wasn't expecting luxury for £69 a night for a twin room but this was a disappointing experience for me. The room was very tired and very basic - peeling paint and shabby furniture.. The main problem was that one of the single beds was broken meaning any movement produced a loud creaking sound that prevented both of us from sleeping.... More

Needed a stopover en route south, and this came up on Wowcher, though booked direct. Impression of welcome from start, rear parking, pub/hotel/restaurant balance about right. room bright, homely - though small items like headboard poor, and bath shower mixer difficult to control. Restaurant great, comfortable, staff v helpful, knowledgeable , food best we`d had in a long time -... More

We were allocated room 22 for a cost of £110 for one night. This room turned out to be very basic. Every movement in bed made the massive headboard rattle and did not help with sleep problems. Curtains are far to thin and allow all the external light from the security lights in. It was like trying to sleep in... More

Start with the only positive, the food in the restaurant was very good. My wife and I both thought it was top quality restaurant food at very competitive prices. The restaurant had obviously been fairly recently refurbished to a modern contemporary design. Unfortunately the rest of the hotel, the bar area and our room (junior suite), was in serious need...
