We called into the woolpack on the 29th and were able to sit in the bar area. There were a couple of other families with young children in which was quite nice really not being the only ones. Bar staff were helpful and friendly. Although there isn't a specific children's menu they were able to do a small bangers and... More

I was staying at nearby Travelodge and visited The Woolpack purely by chance. Some unusual items on the menu - Pumpkin, smoked Cheddar, thyme & chilli burger, cod loin with clams and my choice Lancashire cheese & apple souffle tart. Breakfast choices included Croque Madame and Eggs Benedict but I could only manage the continental buffet after meal the previous... More

We stayed here for one night as a couple. We did not arrive until later in the evening and on arrival we were given our room key and asked if we wished to eat in the restaurant that evening. The lady had left a table spare for us just in case we had needed to eat that evening, which we... More

Ok, for a stop over to explore the local area, it's an adequate base. Staff were really good, friendly and gave the impression they would help you. Food was, really good! Partner is a chef and her steak was cooked to perfection. Positive is that the hotel was fully booked and the only room available was a twin room in... More

The two night stay was,at very least,a disappointment. There is no Reception area/Desk, only a table adjoining the Dining Room. This means that all matters being discussed are easily overheard by any Diner, or anyone passing-by. Room 9 and 10, (up in the eaves) are practically impossible to reach via a near spiral staircase. Once there, the room was passable,... More

I have just returned and think the price of £70 for the superior room is it's limit. On arrival I watched a barmaid /receptionist clear tables and decant the little milk jugs from used tea trays back into the bar jug to be reused. Hmmm .. I read reviews which said about bar noise and creaking floor boards but if... More

Had a couple of nights here recently and really enjoyed it. The bar is cosy with a real fire blazing, when we were there. Bedroom was lovely too, as were the two meals we had in the evenings. Breakfast was excellent. We will definitely visit again. Very obliging staff too.
