Stayed here for one night on route to meet and subsequently adopt a rescue Spaniel. Great pub. Very welcoming and friendly, room was large and nicely done. Fab breakfast to set us up for the day ahead. Recommended.

Arrived lin the evening when work in the area overran unexpectedly. The hosts were extremely accommodating and were able to provide food and rooms even though we hadn't booked. Rooms were excellent, warm and welcoming and the wifi was a real bonus for our work needs. An excellent pub, with good food and great rooms. Would certainly stay again when... More

My partner and I stayed here at the end of November 2013, in room 7. All in all it was a lovely place to stay. Room 7 is a family room, with its own small balcony which is wonderful if you are a smoker and want to 'pop out'. The room was very clean but FREEZING on arrival - as... More

I was told when I moved to the area that The Black Lion had good food. Despite a change of ownership this year they seem to have maintained the high standards as I've eaten twice here this week, burger then lamb. Both have been outstanding especially for the price. My Dad had the best cottage pie in his life and... More

Quiet country pub/hotel with truly excellent food. Nothing too much trouble for the owners who went out of their way to be attentive and make us feel welcome - real old fashioned service. Great overnight stopping location for visiting Aberystwyth (16 miles). Full English breakfast a delight.

Take 3, tired, cold mountainbikers at 8am on a Sunday morning after a night of wind, rain and little sleep, open the kitchen to give them an unmatched full English breakfast (with the best-pouring teapot in Britain), a place to dry saturated socks, a phone charger to help one make an 'I'm OK' call to an anxious family and a... We booked here for a few nights on Tuesday after getting rave reviews from locals in the area, comments in guest books etc., so we had high hopes. We asked for a family room and were told they had one which sounded perfect; a large room with seating area, sofas, bunk beds, large bathroom and our dogs were welcome. At... More

We had been off-road driving in the Cambrian Mountains and knew of the pub but weren't sure what welcome we would receive. It was beyond our expectations. The Landlord allowed us to park our two old Land Rovers on the grass at the back and set up camp. He was very relaxed about us having a camp fire and we... More

We had booked a triple room but when we arrived we asked for a single and a double. This was no trouble. I was shown to my room (which was not ready) where I had my bath immediately much appreciated after a long walk and when I finished, the bed was made immediately. The room was clean, nice and warm.... More
