Stayed in Dec 09 with 24 year old daughter. Some thoughts in summary: -bit hard to find -rooms really nice with Tibetan theme -bit cold but electric fire provided -hotel food a bit less than average -helpful staff-particularly reception -laid back -watch for monkeys getting in your room -no TV in room but you don'y need it-TV downstairs -internet facilities... more

Dear All, I have travelled alot within India but Mcleodganj is the only place, which i have visited thrice in past few years due to its peaceful & positive atmosphere. The Chonor house is the place where we stayed for the honeymoon in Apr. 2007 (The Sea Voyage room). The season was no nice that time, that it was green... more

Mc Leod truly reflects the spirit of the place Dharamshala. One just wonders how beautifully the transition form past to present has happened.Earlier it was a transit point for Yogis going further in the himalayas or vice versa and today it houses a Small Tibet which is determined to go back as and when time permits.Till then we the Urban animals... more

The place oozes charm, being filled with traditional Tibetan pieces of art and craft. They have 11 rooms, which are not numbered as they go by names, and each name reflects the room unique decoration theme. Murals, colors, carpets, bed covers, furniture, everything is tuned to the room theme. We stayed in the "Trees & Flowers" room but peeked at... more

The Chonor House is high quality in every way. The restaurant has excellent, clean food and good service. The rooms are works of art and kept very clean. A medical doctor is on call and was needed thrice for my student group. The front desk staff were helpful, friendly and efficient as they booked our taxi's or sent our laundry... more

Stayed in September 2009, with my wife and our baby daughter. The place was so highly recommended, tough to get into (were on a waitlist for a few days etc.), and on the higher end cost wise, so I guess our expectations were high. And maybe we have high standards (though having lived in India for the past 3 years,... more

This truly is a hidden gem of a hotel. Up a steep road, a Tibetan oasis awaits. The staff are supremely helpful and kind, addressing your every need. We had the opportunity to stay in two different rooms as we booked a little late, and we had to switch up rooms at the end of our stay. This is was... more

I had picked this hotel having read good reviews of it on various websites (including Trip Advisor). Overall it was a pleasant experience, but there were a few “issues” which I would be wrong not to mention. Firstly, I found the hotel very difficult to find – even as someone who has visited McLeod Ganj a few times in the... more

Hi, I organize and lead small(10-12) tours to sacred and exotic destinations from CapeTown, South Africa. I have stayed at Chonor House for 3 nights twice in the past 2 years. My groups all absolutely love their experience here. The rooms are spacious with views of the mts, most with balconies. The traditional art work is preserved on the walls... more

We set out to plan for a trip to Mcleodganj because we'd heard so much about it, about His Holiness Dalai Lama chosing this over other places as his home in exile, of the wonderful eateries that had mushroomed thanks to the booming spiritual tourism, of people of all races and religions having a good time! We just had to... more
