Went for a short break and all in all quite disappointed. Rooms and décor are very tired and yes we know it is an old timber framed building etc.etc.but have stayed in similar which would knock this into a cocked hat. Had a damp musty odour throughout and felt as if it needed a good airing. Welcome was mediocre, which... More

Just got back from a relaxing 2 day stay in Devon. Southern Cross, Tim and his brother, made us feel very welcome. It's just what you would expect from a classic beamed, country B&B. Lots of character and an ideal base for exploring the area, in particular the amazing Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth and Lyme Regis. Started off each day with... More

Went down on a whim to see a friend who was having a rough time, called the owner who was a very nice person and booked a double room with a shared bathroom. Due to reasons i didn't ask i was the only one staying at the hotel and because of the timing of the events i could only get... More

Booked last minute on 29th December whilst house hunting in the area. Tim was very welcoming and provided coffee and biscuits for us when we arrived. Excellent coffee btw! The room, unfortunately, ended up being two singles because, apparently the shower had broken in the double room, and this meant sleeping in a very small single bed. It was comfortable... More

Beautiful building in quant grounds. This is a real old true building with wonky floors and original features . The breakfast was excellent and the owners were very nice and welcomed us and our dogs with good old fashioned warmth. Would definitely recommend staying there.

Having stayed here before, we knew it would be a good place to stay for a few days. As usual the bed was comfy, the room was clean, breakfasts were really good, recommend the scrambled egg with mushrooms on toast. Very quirky place to stay, each bed leg propped up separately to level it out as being a very old... More

My aunt and I stayed for a week. It was an old, thatched B and B with sloping floors. The stairs were quite steep for an 80 year old but there was a hand rail. The facilities in our room were good with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. The breakfasts were excellent with a good range of options. There... More

I really wanted to give this bed and breakfast more stars because the people were very lovely, however, the facilities were I'm afraid, lacking. The Southern Cross is a stunning, old property and yes, it is like stepping back in time. We stayed in a spacious double room with en-suite shower and toilet, and below is a summary of our... More

There was one thing i would have loved to try but didn't have time was there afternoon cream tea which looked very nice but no time. The cost at £30... More

Stayed here for one night with a dog, very pleased to get accomodation for bank holiday weekend, comfortable with delicious breakfast, very relaxed atmosphere, busy noisy road but good central location
