We just want to say a big thank you to Julie and Joe for making our most important day so memerorable for all the right reasons. We were their first guests since taking over the retreat and we asked them to host our wedding and reception on Sept 1st, and yes it was a perfect day in every way and... More

We started our honeymoon in Australia and New Zealand here (from the eastern coast of US). It was an absolutely wonderful experience. Rod and Julie are wonderful people, have a great sense of humor, and offer wonderful hospitality. They organized trips for us right after we arrived, and we were winding our way through the rain forest less than 24... More

We stayed here for 10 days. It was clean, in a good location and the owners - Rod & Julie - are absolutely lovely. They recommended and organised trips for us and made sure that our trip to the Reef was on the perfect day! The house is lovely. There is a kitchen to use if you wish, a lounge,... More

Our welcome at Zimzala confirmed the reason why more and more I am choosing to stay in small B&Bs rather than plush corporate hotels. Julie was a very friendly host throughout our stay and we were made to feel very much at home. The room was fairly small and a bit sparse, but it was big enough for two people... More

This place is a mixed bag in our opinion. It's definitely not a bad choice. But let me list the good - and the not-so-good things. The Good: Location is great, since it's very quiet and almost on the beach, but still an easy bus ride to Cairns. You have an ocean view, although you hear it more than you... More

Unfortunately in Australia all credit card transactions are charged a bank fee by the participating bank. It is clearly stated in our information sent with the first enquiry, that this is charged on credit cards, and can be avoided by paying with travellers cheques or by cash. We offered to transfer our guest to their destination at a cost of... More

Lovely spacious two storied home with guests on the upper 4 bedroomed floor. Beautifully clean with light contemporary Balinese decor.Perfect for a relaxing tropical holiday away from the high rise apartments in Cairns City, and only 15mins by bus, with pickup at door. Rod & Julie Mitchell are wonderful hosts and their gorgeous dogs Winston and Bundie are extremely well... More

I chose Julie and Rod Mitchell's place for a 4-5 day rest in Cairns area after flying in from Europe with the intention of visiting the Great Barrier Reef. I had chosen a bed and breakfast as it is more personal, and from its description with lovely and - as it turned out - accurate photos- which clearly located it... More

We spent our last night in Australia here before flying out of Cairn the following day. We really wished we had stayed here longer rather than in Cairns itself. We enjoyed the chance to cool off in the lovely pool and to stroll to the local (very good) restaurant. The rooms were quiet and very comfortable, the breakfast was superb... More

We enjoyed our stay with Julie & Rod. They were friendly and very helpful in setting up our tours to the rain forest and snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. The Rajah room was fantastic with a beautiful veranda overlooking the palm trees and pool. Breakfast was amazing and the fruit plates a work of art. We would certainly stay... More

After staying with Julie and Rod Mitchell for three nights the end of January, we have just reset the bar for what we consider to be a great B&B experience. If you want typical "franchise" acccommodations then don't stay here! If, on the other hand, you stay in a B&B because you enjoy meeting interesting people and favor a comfortable... More
