We stayed here on a Piemonte biking trip, and rode col d'agnel and col sestriere - both awesome. best part is you are very short distance from Mt Viso which has great hiking and nice little ski town about 20 minute drive from barge. excellent restaurants nearby (Andrea). steer clear of pizza place across from Alter - euro jerks! The hotel is located in an old factory that has been completely renovated for the Turin Winter Olympic Games in 2006. It is now a modern and quite posh hotel, with a lot of art pieces spread all over the place. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. Did not have the chance to try the food but they have... More

we have chosen this because of the good reviews here and because of the fantastic offer (4 nights for 300 EUR). Dogs are allowed by the way which helped for our decision. the staff is very friendly and the location beautiful, including a small room with fire place for your reading. also the bar is quite nice, offering an extensive... Not just a hotel, but a satisfying and complete experience. Inspiring architecture, furnishings and artwork. Attention to detail is remarkable. Homemade food and local, fresh produce makes breakfast very enjoyable. Surprisingly nearby, although with novice slopes, are ski resorts like Crissolo. The Hotel also boasts its own, unique vintage Italian car collection -definitely worth seeing! The staff are friendly and... More

staff was very friendly. they were happy to help us even with quite unusual problems. Room and building perfect. breakfeast for Italian standards very good. very good location for mountain activities around mon viso. barge itself is not very exciting. nice cafe with good gelato on the main plaza. Ask for a visit to the classic cars!

We visited Piemont in May 2012 and were desparately searching for a hotel that meets our expectations regarding design and comfort. Although Barge is a little bit away from the classic Piemont wine region, we chose Alter Hotel - and will do it again! Exclusively designed with all amenities someone needs for a most relaxing stay. We enjoyed it from... More

We decided to come to this hotel through a smart box offer and booked the executive room over the phone when we were told that the executive room is actually a standard one and we were offered a de luxe room for tha added cost of 25 euros . This is the room I am writing from sweating since the... More

I decided to book this hotel after reading the positive reviews on tripadvisor. It was a very good experience overall. The rooms were spacious enough, the hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We decided to go into the village for dinner and the reception staff recommened a restaurant to us - Ristorante S Giovanni. The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Once arrived to Alter Hotel You are captured by a special environment, where kindness and warmth are protagonists. The Hotel, facing Monviso mountain, is close to Saluzzo, Staffarda, Racconigi and Fenestrelle. An unusual Piedmont, much more attractive if seen through the windows of an ex textile factory of the late nineteenth century, whose restoration focuses on design. Clean lines and generous spaces are precious allies in harmony research. This is why rooms benefit of high quality materials and unique details and some of them offer a private terrace. Fresh fruits, water and newspapers each morning. The Bistrot Restaurant Lacet proposes a rich choice, with a look to the traditional dishes from Piedmont, also reaching contemporaries perspectives. Fitness Area, in addition to the tennis court in the park and the squash court, a magnificent steam bath hall, hydro-massage showers and the possibility to require esthetical and relaxing treatments in our massages area. Finally, an unique experience, the visit to the vintage car collection of the 20'ies and the '30ies. ... more   less
