The Hotel Monasterio de San Francisco is located in Palma del Rio; roughly halfway between Seville and Cordoba and perhaps a little way off the regular tourist track, but well worth the visit. It was our intention to visit Castillo del Almodovar the following day and then continue on to Cordoba, so Palma del Rio provided a natural break point... More

Very large, comfortable, updated guest rooms set in a historic monastery. Onsite dining facilities with well-prepared offerings. Good Wi-Fi in guest rooms and common areas. There were a significant number of stairs, and I didn't notice an elevator/lift. We handled our luggage on our own since we were physically able to do so and we had not seen any bellmen.... More

We arrived and our reservation had been canceled, after about 4 hours of trying to get to the bottom of the problem, Anna figured it out! The room she gave us was beautiful, large newly renovated bathroom, comfy bed, simply charming. the town itself was just okay and NOT a must stop, but we enjoyed walking around the orange tree... When do you have the chance to sleep in a 500 year old building where once Franciscan monks lived and Christopher Columbus waited for Queen Isabella to open her coffers for his expedition to discover America. It’s quite an experience to walk and sleep between such history laden walls. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms marvellous with their marble floors,... More

Though only listed as a 3 star, we found this hotel better than the 4 star hotels we stayed in in Cordoba and Seville. Lovely courtyards, spacious rooms, dining indoors and outdoors, copious buffet breakfast and a nice pool in a garden.

If you have had breakfast at this place paying 10.00 Euros per person you will know why the Monks left for a better pasture. The Breakfast table contains nothing. Few slices of a dried bread several days old, Cold coffee and warm juice and milk. Few slices of one cheese and ham from a pre-packed supermarket package and that´s it.... More

A truly WONDERFUL PLACE to visit and see Spanish past glory that only the elite could afford in times past! A beautifully renovated Monastery, now a Hotel with manicured gardens (now "missing" a few Oranges and Grapefruits which "fell into... my pockets!) renovated dining areas to their Old World charm, excellent Spanish food with wide menu & wine list, most... We spent 2 nights at this hotel. We had room 13 which is its own wing on the second floor. The bathroom is very large and beautiful with walk-in shower and jetted tub. The room also is very large and beautiful with a huge King sized bed. The TV is an old small tube TV, but you are not really... More

We loved this building - it has been converted without losing the feel of a religious house. The bedroom we had was huge with a great bathroom overlooking the gardens. The 30 metre pool was fab and in a beautiful setting! From the aerial shots it looks like its surrounded by the town - which it is, but once inside... More

As this hotel is just 2 hours drive from where we live, we could hardly refuse to take advantage of their special offer of dinner, bed & breakfast for two people for just €65. The building is impressive and retains the aura and many of the original features of the monastery it once was. As an hotel, it succeeds in... More
