One of the great things about coming regularly to the Costa del Sol is finding new gems to visit. This hotel is no exception, being located off the road from Marbella to Ojen. One follows the brown sign marked to Refugio de Juanar for about 7K along a twisty mountain road and is rewarded by finding this hotel located in... More

Excellent facilities for us. We decided to use this hotel as we wanted to do two walks from there. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant and the food was good but a little overpriced.

The room was small and tired. We were not offered an alternative even though we asked for a transfer. The room we had was extremely small and the amenities like heaters thrown in as an after thought. The staff did their best but we were over all disappointed with what should have been a nice break away. There was a... More

Yesterday we took a little day trip to Ojen to drop off a friend at her hotel and we ended up for lunch at the Refugio de Juanar. A very popular spot in the mountains above Marbella and it took us a while to get there. It was busy but we were relatively early and sat down for some tapas... More

although this hotel is literally over the mountain from where I live, we decided to try the restaurant and stay the night to save driving home. We had previously been put off of this venue as we have had such poor service, when even trying to get a cup of coffee. We arrived by way of the winding narrow road... More

A very pleasant surprise finding Refugio de Juanar. We have visited twice now, firstly to enjoy coffee inside by the glowing logs as the air is chillier in the winter months. We loved the ambiance and old fashioned unspoiled decor in the comfortable lounge area. Our second visit to have lunch today was as satisfying but I would agree with... More

This is a hidden Place but Worth to visit, especially if you like mountain hiking, the surroundings are beautiful, tracks are well described. The hotel has a swimming pool excellent after mountain walk. The Food was very good, good wine. The staff is friendly. Standard rooms, but clean.

We've stayed here three times now, but last night was the best - in Room No. 3, where General de Gaulle stayed and wrote his memoirs. We sat in front of our own open fire in the bedroom, relaxing before dinner - really nice. It's such a lovely place to stay, somewhat quirky but that adds to the charm. The... More

We have now seen the New Year in on three occasions at this wonderful former hunting lodge set in the mountains above Marbella. Although, the bedrooms are old fashioned that is part of its charm with wood fires and comfortable armchairs. It is run as a co-operative by the staff, who are welcoming and effficent. The food is simple but... More

The Refugio is reached by taking a well signposted minor road, off the A355, the Coin/Marbella road; at 780 meters (about 2,500 feet) above sea level, it stands in splendid isolation. It is far enough away from the haunts of the wealthy and the not so wealthy expats to make you feel out in the wild, but close enough for... More
