Long time ago I found out, how expensive it is to maintain a castle. That is the simple reason, why there are not a lot of castle hotels. Before critizising the price, consider all the details. All things considered, Gilly is perfect and reasonably priced.

A wonderful Chateau to stay in. Relax and enjoy the Chateau, the luxurious rooms, the sumptuous food in the restaurant.... and then walk the grounds the next day, before exploring nearby vineyards, bubbles wineries, and local towns like Beaune and Nuits St Georges. The staff are friendly. The rooms luscious in décor - maybe a bit old fashioned or eccentric... More

This is my new favourite place to break my annual drive from London to Cannes. There is a real sense of history in a magnificent former monastery. Tranquil, elegant, relaxing and the restaurant is excellent.

I was invited to this hotel as a corporate client. It looks and sounds great. However the truth is that this establishment is moribund when it comes to client satisfaction and service. Beyond the general disinterest, a number of specific things irritated me on the stay. I asked during the day for recommendations about visiting a good vineyard in Beaune... More

The rooms are very nice, and classy, in a manner one expects from such an establishment. The restaurant's food was rather poor, not up to our expectations. The hotel bar is the right place to pass time out after dinner.

Dear Madam, dear Sir, We would to thank you for your comment you have post. We have notice your bad appreciation about our restaurant but we do not know your expectations. We have several menus, a card and you can take dishes in the menu. The Chef changes the card at each season and different menus are suggested for lunch.... More

I wished I could give more points to this beautiful Chateau. Two aspects that are up to a 5-star standard are the building itself, which is wonderful, and the service, which is warm and attentive. The problem is the room, which lacks the most basic amenities you would expect (agree with previous reviewer), and the hygiene itself (the shower in... More

The Chateau de Gilly is approximately 800 years old & very charming. If you are looking for a true French country retreat, this is it! The beds were comfy, bathroom was well equipped, bathrobes provided, rooms well decorated in true French Provincial style; all amenities as you would expect, including small refrigerator. Although we never had dinner there, we did enjoy... More

Stayed here October 2014. Unfortunately the Chateau is living in the past, whoever awarded 4* needs to revisit!! None of the modern amenities which one would regard as basic requirements were present, no kettle in the room, no ironing board, no iron, no extra pillows, no TV news in English, hairdryer last used by Noah, no heat. We only had... More

Stayed here two nights in September 2014. The weather was great around mid 70f which is nice because there is no a/c. The Chaeau is really beautiful with lovely landscaped gardens and an outdoor pool. The location is ideal for touring the Burgundy region, as here is where all the lovely delicious wines abound! The nearby town Vougeut is a... More

Having stayed here on business 20+ years ago, I thought I'd try it again as a convenient stopping point on our journey from Calais to Provence. We were not disappointed. Lovely setting and do take the opportunity to walk the grounds - not just the spacious garden area in front of the chateau, but the area with the river to... More
