This was the second year running we have stayed at this wonderful Auberge on our way back from The Pyrenees - but it wont be the last. If you like modern, crisp, sleek....then this isnt for you. This is all about character. The buildings have it in abundance. The proprietors have even more! To sit in the afternoon sun on... More

This Logis is well worth a visit. The property is only about 60 years old, built by the Mr Colas' family I assume as a retreat or hunting lodge. Both M et Mme Colas are a charming, gentile couple - Madame was always so elegantly dressed. The bedrooms have clearly been updated in recent years, although the bathrooms are in... More

out of the way in a very scenic part of France, the auberge may at first look a bit shabby and tired but guests need to look past first appearance and enjoy the eccentricity of the place and its owners. very few hotels in France remain with such character and this is what we were looking for and we were... In the middle of nowhere, a long drive off a quiet road, the loudest noise belongs to the geese and ducks on the pond/lake. Sounds idillic , looks lovely from the website, not difficult to find. But would have been wonderful 20 years ago. The room was clean but the bed soft and very narrow, the bathroom suite a lilac... More

Thankfully the description in the guide book we were using did not big up the hotel too much otherwise we may have been disappointed. There is no doubting the friendliness & eccentricity of the owners, however they could not be more helpful & accommodating. The meal was delicious, real French cuisine at its best at such good value. I would... More

Rather grand, if of faded glory, country house hotel. Don't think I would want to experience the etang itself which was slimy green rather than blue. Our room did not overlook it and was therefore cheaper but was actually better as there were no beasties from the waterside. Fantastic dining room but it was so hot, all residents ate outside.... L'Etang Bleu is not worth the 74 euros (not inc breakfast) we paid for it. We stayed in places for the same price and even 10 euros less which were in better locations, included breakfast and much better looked after. Without a doubt the owners were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was also decorated in a pretty French style.... More

Beautiful rustic hotel in a very peaceful location. The food is excellent, we did eat out one night when we couldn't face another five course meal, we'd really recommend the pizza restaurant in Mareuil, L'Olive Noire. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and made our stay extra special. We stayed for four nights and enjoyed visiting local towns... More

We stayed here to be near our friends, who are renovating a house nearby, and it was recommended by them.It was absolutely lovely.Set in beautiful grounds, the hotel is more like a grand hunting lodge than a Logis.I can only agree with previous reviewers on food, decor etc.You would really need a car whilst here as it is in the back of beyond but... My husband and I stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon, when most hotels in the Dordogne region were either too expensive or booked (we didn't plan ahead). We really loved the place overall -- the huge property is peaceful and gorgeous (though a bit run), with ducks quacking their heads off in the large pond. The owners are... More
