I stayed a Brooklyn for a long weekend and had such a peaceful, happy time there. I feel very lucky to have discovered this absolute gem in a wonderful part of Fitzroy. I didn't know the area well at the beginning but owner Maggie was so generous with her time and shared lots of local knowledge and great tips. Brooklyn... More

Brooklyn Arts is said not to be for everyone. I don't believe it. If you hate people, animals, and plants, maybe. Otherwise, what a place! Welcoming, efficient, helpful, quiet, artistic, unique. The building dates from 1865, but everything works, and works well. The bathrooms are new and spotless. The rooms are charming and spotless. Each is different (even the walls... More

Brooklyn arts is a wonderful place to stay in Melbourne. It's an arty, unconventional and wonderful bed and breakfast. Located in a beautiful victorian villa, the hotel is right in the trendy Fitzroy district, with hundreds of great bars, restaurants and shops. The rooms are all beautiful and all different. The best thing is the atmosphere of this hotel and... More

I stayed here in February 2010 and found it lived up to my expectations. If you with an open mind and a warm heart you will love this place. The building itself is wonderful and it is furnished and decorated in a very pleasant and idiosyncratic style. I had the biggest room with a piano and ensuite. I could only... More

The website tagline "one of those places you'll be glad you found" couldn't be more appropriate in expressing my absolute delight in having stayed at the Brooklyn Arts Hotel. Situated at the peak of the heart of Fitzroy, the CBD, Fitzroy/ Collingwood/ Carlton- cultural stepping stones of Melbourne, were all within walking distance. Gertrude street is not even a minutes... We stayed at the Brooklyn for 11 days - about 6 more than we had originally planned. Our arrival at the Brooklyn was completely smooth and Maggie, the hostess, went truly above and beyond to look after us during our stay. I also found it to be nice and quiet in both the rooms we ended up staying in -... More

Lovely heritage building close to city (walking distance). Friendly and efficient service -nothing too much trouble. Pleasant garden courtyard for breakfast, glass of wine etc.

This B&B is not for those who prefer sterile hotel rooms, private bathrroms and daily sheet changes. But I liked traipsing through the fragrant garden to the shower, the two big labradors who greet you, the simple, ample breakfast, and the lively conversation at the breafast table.

I have stayed in a variety of hotels and hostels that range from no stars to those pushing beyond five, and only once braved a bed and breakfast in Australia that reaffirmed all my fears for unwanted intimacy - sitting in someone's living room and having to make conversation and groping for a subject of mutual interest. Hmm. So I... More

I think it takes a certain type of person to like staying at a place like this. If you're really into quirky B&Bs then you might like this place. Personally this place wasn't for me at all and I found it to be rather overpriced for what you get but here is a list of its hits and misses. HIT:... More
