We visited this venue for a gig in The Barn. We booked a room as it was 120 miles from our home. What a lovely place, our room was spotless, it was nice to have two easy chairs as well as a desk chair. The bed is enormous and the bathroom spacious with a bath and a walk in shower.... More

We stayed overnight on Sunday to take in a gig in The Barn, which is the pub's excellent music venue in its own grounds. Our room was spacious, very comfortable, modern and very well equipped all round, couldn't fault it. We ate in the pub Sunday evening before the gig, lovely food and drink (especially if you enjoy real ales),... More

Stayed here for 3 nights this week. The pub is very old and traditional. Fabulous food and very friendly staff. We were made very welcome. The pub has lovely accommodation at the back. Our room was large and clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was included in the price and the "full English" set us up for the day. This was... More

We arrived on the Friday evening for an overnight stay after a tedious journey in heavy traffic! This was just a stopover on our way to Cornwall the next morning. We were greeted by the very friendly and welcoming landlady, and shown to the room. It is so informal and very relaxed, key in the door and if you need... More

What a shame! Looks like we will have to consider a ban on dogs. We are sure that as dog owners yourselves this will be a great disappointment. More

We stayed at the Square and Compass again recently: this time on a Sunday evening to go to one of the very popular music events in The Barn. This is a great place to stay: friendly staff, warm and cosy pub atmosphere, hearty well cooked food with lots of choice, and the rooms are exceptionally good for this type of... More

We stayed here last week and our experience was nothing but excellent! The staff are so friendly and helpful, the food was excellent. We had a Sunday roast followed by a full English breakfast. Our room was clean and welcoming had a TV and a large ensuite. We were at the pub for a concert in the barn. I look... More

Stayed with a colleague on Sunday evening. Thing that hits you immediately is the smell in the bar. As mentioned elsewhere it's like damp dog! Makes for not a too pleasant eating experience. The rooms are large, bed large with clean bedding. Room sound proofed which is fabulous. However, the rest of the room is dirty. I understand that being... More

It was our sons wedding which he and his wife wanted to hold here after plenty of research on south west venues. We've been a few times to sample the food but thought it might be useful to comment on the wedding side of things for those people thinking of using this venue. From start to finish the whole organisation... More

Found this place through booking. Com. Near where I was going the following day. Very happy with my choice, deep in the countryside. I'm from London where there is a lot of light pollution so when I saw the millions of stars above my head I was breath taken. Friendly charming little Inn.

We got caught in A30/M5 traffic and decided to go off track looking for hopefully, a good pub for lunch. We didn't go far towards the M5 Taunton before we saw the signs for a Good Pub guide handmade sign and I'm so glad we followed it. Such a lovely pub who also apparently specialise in weddings and functions. We... More
