My wife and I stayed one night en route to Exmoor. This is an experience not to be missed. Well-furnished, quiet and comfortable room. Outstanding food and restaurant service. And a warm welcome from staff and the friendly local clientele

Excellent food, excellent atmosphere and excellent accomodation and to top it all very reasonably priced. We enjoyed it so much in October 2010 we went back for more in September 2011 and, no doubt, we'll be going back again :)

I echo the other reviews - this pub is an authentic pub with friendly staff. It serves a good selection of beers and well frequented by local people. The Sunday carvery (£8.50) consisted of a generous portion of high quality, very well cooked, beef and/or pork with an impressive selection of accompaniments. Very convenient for a visit to Barrington Court... More

I got a notice, that the food is excellent in this Pub, and indeed, it was. It was a very friendly atmosphaere in the pub and I felt welcome. I had the best Mixed Grill ever and enjoyed the meal a lot. The taste was very good, the portions huge and the prize for that what I got very good.... More

We discovered the Duke of York 18 months ago when we were staying in a holiday cottage in the village (which my partner had booked for a birthday weekend surprise). It was a wet and wild evening when we arrived and we found our way down the lane to the DoY. The inn was warm and welcoming. Purdy (the labrador)... More

This pub is very traditional and the atmosphere in the bar looks jolly. The owners put themselves out to be friendly. Breakfast was very good, and there was a flat screen TV on in the breakfast room so that it didn't feel too quiet. I had seen photos of the brick built chalets at the back of the building and... We were recommended this pub (with rooms) when we were travelling down for a friends wedding - what a find. The owner has obviously added the letting rooms on the back of a traditional pub. You get the best of both worlds - a great pub and somewhere clean, comfortable and better than most 4 star hotels to sleep in... More
