For anyone looking for historic charm, clean rooms, comfortable beds, very good food and ales I would certainly recommend The Abbots Fireside. I spent 2 nights and was treated excellently by a very helpful manager and staff. I would visit again if I was in the area.

Having continued to stay here for the past 6 weeks, I am still welcomed with the same level of service and excellent staff as my first night in the hotel. The staff continue to treat me with respect and provide a friendly atmosphere to work, socialise and sleep in. I have a family event coming up and have asked them... More

We had a 10am ferry from Dover so decided to make the trip from Exeter the previous day and stay close to the port. I chose Elham because it was half way between Canterbury and Dover. This hotel is as good as it looks in the photographs. There are nooks and crannies everywhere, creaking floors, old fireplaces, real fires. Fantastic.... More

Have been here numerous times and it just gets better. We walked in to the amazing smell of warming cider by the side of the wood burner. Our table wasn't quite ready so we were shown into the small bar. We were quite early for our booking so this wasn't a problem. We were then shown to our table and... More

We arrived at the hotel almost 9 PM on a cold wet evening after a 7 hr drive. When we went through the door we were welcomed by a pleasant young lady and a gorgeous roaring log fire in a inglenook fireplace..it was sooo inviting...we was a little hungry so they were prepared to sort us out with something even... Booked on the spur of the moment as travelling to Belgium on an early shuttle. Very polite and accommodating staff and an Inn steeped in charm and character. The room was clean and generously proportioned with good en suite facilities. I have no hesitation in recommending this old Inn. The upper 2 rooms do have quite a steep narrow access,... More

We booked this hotel at the last minute and did not expect to find an absolute gem. The inn has been operating continuously since mediaeval times and was apparently the Duke of Wellington's HQ before Waterloo. King Charles II was also reputed to have hid in the massive fireplace when on the run from the Parliamentarians. The room we got... More

This is a really nice old inn with tonnes of character. We had a very pleasant dinner in the evening. All in all a nice place to stay in a picturesque village. The only slight negative was the quality of the breakfast which didn't quite live up to expectations but could quite easily be improved. I would recommend and would... More
