The only issues we had with this hotel were the loud noises we could hear from our room. After settling into bed, we could clearly hear the conversations in the next room and the people weren't even talking that loudly ! This was also the case in the morning when the same residents woke up early. As we were situated... more

Having recently started doing business with a nearby factory I am now making regular trips to this area of Essex and so far had not found a hotel that I felt happy about returning to again, but this may be one! Arrival started with a bit of a concern that they only had me down for 1 night stay (can... more

I had qualms about reserving the Hotel for our joint Birthday celebration (five old schoolfriends, plus partners, plus some teens) but was extremely pleasantly surprised by absolutely everything we encountered in using the Hotel. RESTAURANT: The restaurant had good service, the food was really fantastic value - superbly cooked, excellent portions, with a menu which showed they understand flavours and... more

The term 'country club' conjures up an idea of some rural idyll but nothing could be further from the truth! When we checked in I asked if the room was quiet and was assured it was. However when we arrived at room 3 it was on the ground floor and looked straight onto the car park outside the window. We could... more

We were on a tight budget but desperately wanted a bit of time to ourselves without our 2 babies to put to bed and waking us early in the morning. We wanted a pool and a jacuzzi and a full english with the option of dinner in our room or in a no frills restaurant. This hotel fitted the bill... more

In the most part this was a nice Hotel, food was excellent but there is a door into the Lodge rooms via the open veranda from the function room. From 1.30-02.15 on our first night we had drunken men running up & down the corridor banging on doors & shouting rather threatening! Complaints were made by myself & other guests.... more

What a little gem ! We booked to stay here having got a good deal through a hotel broker on the web.. and what a great find it turn out to be ! We were visiting friends in the area, so were staying with our kids ,and though i should stress, kids are welcomed & catered for, it is a... more

I booked this accomodation for 2 couples as we had a wedding in Colchester. I worried, given the reviews, but no need to. Disconcerting arrival experience (through a business park), but away from road noise, and restful. Excellent value for money, B&B for less than £30pppn with activehotels website. First floor rooms were spacious enough with pleasant views down onto... more

I booked a group of guests into the Lodge for our wedding. It was a mistake. There were some domestic problems, including the key-card system breaking down (meaning that my bride couldn't get into her room before the wedding!) and the sink of the "bridal suite" being cracked and 'fixed' with mastik. The service was pretty poor too - their... more

Stayed here whilst in the area on business, the rooms are pretty basic just like a lot of chain hotels, there did not appear to be many other guests staying at the hotel at the time so it was quiet. The main downside to the hotel is that it is a little too far from anywhere. Right in the middle... more
