Looking for a treaty night away we chose Cavens because of its location (bang on the lovely Solway coast) and because the promise of a warm welcome, good food and relaxed atmosphere so many have commented on in tripadvisor reviews. It delivered: our room (Criffel) was spacious and warm, stylishly set up. Big bed with very nice linen. Plenty of... More

With stunning views of the Solway countryside and surrounded by a beautiful garden in which to roam at leisure, Cavens' location lends itself to outdoor activities - walking, golf, birdwatching - and also to exploring the picturesque nearby towns: some fellow guests spent a happy day in the Wigtown book shops, for example. After a day in the open air,... More

Four of us (two couples) spent 4 nights there in mid-August this year (2015). We were looking for a quiet, comfy place, with good food, to use as a base for touring SW Scotland. We were not disappointed. The hotel is an old house (mid 1700s) that has been furnished and decorated in period, by and large. The bedrooms (we... More

From the moment we were warmly greeted by Naomi, we felt at home in this wonderful hotel, as if we were visiting friends in a traditional country house. Our room, Kinvar, was full of light (heavy curtains keep it dark in the early morning), with a wonderful sitting room where the sun streams in. True, the bathroom with shower only... More

Cavens Country House Hotel provides a warm welcome, very comfortable accommodation and excellent food. Our room, 'Criffel' was very well appointed and big enough to be called a Junior Suite in some more pretentious hotels. Everything here is understated but of very good quality - such as the Roberts DAB radio in the room and the bathrobes tucked away in... More

We recently stayed at Cavens for a celebratory birthday over four days. The hotel is very informal with incredibly welcoming hosts who allowed us to feel at home in their splendid drawing room with great settees for relaxing and enjoying the slow pace of life in this family run hotel. Bedrooms are huge with a good standard of furnishings and... More

Have just completed our 3rd stay this year and it was simply a wonderful experience for those wishing to take life at a leisurely pace. Superb cooking by Angus -loved the hake in caper sauce and it was the fruitiest summer pudding imaginable. (Jane's chocolate brownies aren't half bad either!) Angus and Jane are perfect hosts and their staff work... More

Welcomed by the owner on arrival and shown to our room which was stunning. Beautifully appointed with period furniture and tasteful decoration in keeping with the style of the property. Afternoon tea (tea or coffe and a slice of fruit cake) was provided and you had the use of the various lounges to simply sit and relax, chat, read or... More

The meal was perfect and Angus and his wife could not have been more accommodating particularly as my wife is both a vegetarian and gluten free..The famlly had the hotel to themselves on the day of the wedding.. We spent 3 nights at the... More
