We stayed at Dowfold House run by Jill and Rupert Richardson and cannot speak highly enough of the quality and service that they offer. It is absolutely fantastic and they make you feel very welcome in their home. We had a wonderful time at this lovely homestead and only sorry that we didn't have more days there. Thank you so... Spent 3 nights in this lovely place with my mother, 89 years. Our delightful hosts, Jill and Rupert were attentitive, informative and welcoming. Lots of information and iinteresting bookshelves in the residents lounge. Beautiful breakfast choice in with gorgeous pressed apple juice and home made preservesComfortable beds, good views - and, as my mother pointed out: sparkling taps! "Dogs welcome"... More

Thank you for your lovely sentiments. Much appreciated. We have to say, following your mother's comment about the taps, we went and had a look - and she's quite right! Who needs mirrors? We also appreciate your comments on "dog-friendly" - we are very dog-friendly (and have a very friendly dog), but would never let that compromise the stay of... More

This was my second stay at Dowfold and it deserves its great reputation : warm friendly welcome from Jill and Rupert with tea and home made cake/biscuits served in the lounge, very comfortable rooms (the Green room is my favourite as the countryside views are amazing), excellent breakfasts with a wide selection of food on offer, really peaceful setting with... Thank you for the great review. Jill takes ALL the credit for the delicious biscuits! The Green Room is one of our favourites, too. On a sunny day, it positively glows! More

We initially chose the Dowfold House due to its location as we were attending a wedding reception at Crook Golf Club which was 50 yards away. On arrival we were warmly greeted at the car and shown to our room during the greeting we were offered refreshments which we are glad we accepted, homemade meringue and shortbread biscuits and a... We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We are VERY convenient for functions at Crook Golf Club - a mere 5-minute stagger! I think our Red Room is particularly appealing - a bit smaller than the others, but cosy & comfortable. More

Not bad for our 100th Excellent review on TripAdvisor (out of 104)! Thank you very much. It really says it all. People are beginning to appreciate our location, right at the heart of County Durham, with so much history, scenery, activity, and just plain fun within easy reach. It's the place to be! More

We spent two nights on our way to London from the Highlands and stayed in the pink room which is very well appointed and contains a very comfortable bed. Breakfasts were excellent and so filling that we only needed one of Jill's home-baked biscuits to sustain us through the whole day.

Thank you very much for your kind words. We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay, and that you managed to go and see the Zurburan paintings at Auckland Castle - which are actually magnificent, as is the rest of the Castle. The endorsement of the breakfasts is also most welcome; we'd hate our guests to go hungry into the world! More

We enjoyed a 2 night stay at Dowfold House in June 2015. Very comfortable, attractive bedroom and bathroom with all the details for comfort covered. Charming garden with beautiful views. We needed a very early breakfast which was provided as no problem at all and was delicious. Would highly recommend. Like staying with old friends.
