The location of the hotel is ideal. The scenery is beautiful. Check in was friendly and welcoming. The hotel is rated as 2 star and I wouldn't give more than this. It was clean, but basic. Decor is dated and tired. Our en suite room was in the attic, it was compact and very warm. Bedding is synthetic and pillows... More

The location of the two star George Borrow Hotel is absolutely stunning and our party of six were delighted to check in, sit in the garden and take in the beautiful scenery in the afternoon sunshine whilst sampling a relaxing drink or two. The owner and her staff were very friendly and could have not been more obliging. However for... More

December 2013 15 of us had a pr xmas dinner and they let us have a huge function room as we had 4 young children, so they could have a little play. Stopped for lunch after finding several other pubs closed. Food was freshly cooked, good portions and good value. Welcome was friendly and was served quickly. Well worth a visit Dining room was sunny with great views.

Arriving at The George Borrow Hotel we received a very friendly reception from Michelle and were shown to our room on the first floor. This had a pleasant view over the beer garden to the rounded hills beyond the gorge that runs below the hotel. A comfortable double bed dominated this room leaving very little living space. The recently installed... More

We did not stay here but went for dinner. For some reason this Hotel does not come up under places to go at Ponterwyd. The selection of food available was excellent, freshly prepared and very tasty. We enjoyed a very late lunch from the a la carte Menu. Food and drinks are also served in the large garden overlooking the... More

Made a nice change to get special attention from friendly hosts. The food here is mostly home cooked and to an excellent standard. The rooms in this small hotel are a lille dated but who cares the friendly atmosphere of the whole place more than makes up for it. A plentiful breakfast overlooking a view that you just do not... Hubby had used the pub lunch time with his group of trail riders and having just had a poor meal at the Haford, his face was a picture when I said we were going back for the evening meal, he had not eaten there and it turned out the bar they used must be used a lot by hikers and... More

What a fantastic, small family run hotel. Great service matched by excellent food. The mixed grill was brilliant and a very generous portion. If you are looking for a hotel where you are made to feel at home then look no further. I was here on business so the fast wifi was an unexpected bonus.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2015

We stayed here on 17th March, what a cracking place. Situated on the main road but once inside, you can't hear any traffic. We arrived just before 8 and luckily the owner greeted us and promptly took our food order while we settled in with a Guinness (or five). Couldn't fault the meal nor the drinks, fair selection of beers... More
