We spent three nights in Dantica during the "green season". Admittedly it was chilly at night (you are after all at 7000 feet / 2500 m above sea level) but the ethanol heaters in the rooms made for very cosy ands romantic evenings. The food was excellent, every single dish was cooked to perfection, although the breakfast were a little... More

A brief stay at the eco- friendly Dantica Lodge afforded us great views, excellent food, helpful staff, and good lodging at this mountanous retreat. The lodge's birding guide, Carlos, was as knowledgeable and helpful as any lodge guide I have used in Costa Rica. The food was very good as is typical for most of Costa Rica and the dining... More

A completely different Costa Rica. You definitely need a sweater at night. The place is very well renovated and the villas are very eco and comfortable at the same time. They have small beautiful ethanol heaters in the rooms. The view from the living room and the terrace is awesome. The food in the nice restaurant is very good. The... More

Dantica came recommended as a good place to stay in the southern mountains, San Gerardo de Dota area. I read that some of the lodging was far from the restaurant and main lodge. With this in mind, and having read that it gets cold at night, and that we were going to be there in the green season, I requested a... More

Dear Guests. Thank you for your comments. We have placed you in the Forest Bungalow closest to repection as requested, becuase the three Bungalows next to the restaurant were already reserved. The distance from you Bungalow to the Restaurant is not 1 kilometer, by the way, but 350 meters. The trails are lit at night, not very bright because, being... More

The views from the restaurant were breathtaking. The room had very good views too. I loved the cool weather after so much heat in the lowlands. The breakfast omelets were awesome. I think the original inspiration for the hotel is great but the hotel owner needs to carry it through and deliver some major essential updates to make the rooms... More

Dear Guests. Thank you for your comments. We understand your worries about the humidity. The roofs of our Bungalows are isolated and tiled. We work with natural light and natural ventilation, and besides the air abstractor in the bathroom we have ventilation shafts in each bedroom and bathroom. They are not very visible (behind the beds and low in the... More

We arrived at Dantica after a week in the heat and humidity of the Osa Peninsula in the rainy season. Heaven!! Views from the floor-to-ceiling windows brought the mountains into the living room. The new managers were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. The breakfast, included in the room price, very generous. At first I wondered why I had gotten... More

We stayed 3 nights in Dantica and we enjoyed every minute of it. We stayed near the reception in a comfortable house with two bedrooms and large living room. Large windows with a nice view over the forrest. It was the beginning of the wet season, so everything was dry inside. A pity this house had no jaccuzi as we... More

This hotel is esthetically pleasing, but you must be prepared for a few things. We missed the ferry and called the number to the hotel ( and talked to a manager off site) who was informed where we were in our journey to get there. He promised he would keep the kitchen open for us so we could eat when... More

Dear guests, I am sorry to hear about your experience, but I would like to comment on some points to explain it. We are a small hotel and have our own restaurant that is open between 7.00 AM and 9.00 PM (kitchen 8.00 PM). Since we are there for our guests we are very willing to wait a little for... More

This may go a bit long, so let me get the key positive points up front. This is a gorgeously located lodge, beautifully built into the hills near the top of a stunning cloud forest valley above 2500 meters. The design is clever, and clean, the restaurant is solid and the overall vibe relaxed. The chance to see the resplendent... More

Dantica Lodge, San Gerardo de Dota – 3 out of 5 Perhaps we were getting complacent by the time we reached here or perhaps we just found the altitude too much - at nearly 3,000 metres it’s very high and drains your energy – but this wasn’t the best place we stayed in Costa Rica. Our cabin was 300 metres... More
