After a three hour drive from SJO through tropical downpours and fog, my friend and I were a little intimidated to see the switchback road down to Trogon Lodge. But, after 15 min of very slow, very careful driving we arrived in a gorgeous and peaceful valley. The gardens were colorful and well-maintained, with hummingbirds nearly everywhere you looked. We were fortunate to spend a couple of nights in the superior cabin number 23. This was the highest lodge on the site and you overlook the rest of the lodges. You feel like king of the hill! It had a great jacuzzi overlooking the gardens, plus a huge bed and a great balcony overlooking the valley. The breakfasts were... More

We made an impromptu drive up to San Gerardo De Doto on our last day of vacation in Costa Rica, at the recommendation of the awesome folks at Mad About Diving in Uvita. Most of the drive up to San Gerardo from Dominical was fairly easy, but the last 10 mile stretch down into the canyon/valley where the lodge is... More

More

We stayed 2 nights in Trogon Lodge, San Gerardo de Dota, and had a wonderful time in this beautiful resort. The lodge is in a quiet little valley; surrounded by a garden full of colourful flowers, and colibris. The big rooms are comfortable and the service is outstanding! The food is wonderful; they offer a 3 course dinner at 18... More

I've lived in Costa Rica (San Jose) for almost a year now and keep coming back to this spot when I need to clear my head. High up in the cloud forrest San Gerardo is a quaint town nestled in a valley. Whether you want to or not you're going to relax while staying here. The grounds are beautiful, flowers... More

Great little weekend trip from San Jose, and a great alternative to enjoy the cloud forest away from other overwhelming alternatives in Costa Rica. Their lounger makes for an enjoyable common room. Service is outstanding.

Nestled in picturesque valley high in the beautiful mountains surrounded by colourful, cultivated gardens, loaded with kolibri's. Cabins are not detached. When it is possible the room next to you is not occupied. In high season, this will not be possible. The cabin was clean but not luxurious, which wasn't a problem, The food was excellent, especially their farmed trout... More
