We were visiting family in CR and traveled to Savegre for a weekend getaway. The grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The food is served buffet style for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is OK in quality...nothing spectacular. My husband and I went on a couple of hikes during the first day (we... More

Well designed resort with nearly everything one might need: restaurant, bar, spa, souvenir shop, private reserve with trails. Beautiful and extensive manicured gardens, hummingbird and platform feeders, lots of avian visitors of varied species. Spacious rooms – at least ours was. Hotel is surrounded by mountains, in a breathtakingly scenic valley. Hotel entrance crosses a stream from where you can... More

My husband and I spent 3 days/3 nights at Savegre Hotel. We had read this area was a natural reserve and as birders, a perfect place to vacation. Our second morning was a delightful surprise as a male Resplendent Quetzal was perched nearby, outside our room. We had gotten several pictures as the bird posed for quite a while. I... More

This has become my most favorite place on Earth. I love the outdoors and I love birding! There is no better place to enjoy both. The air is cool and crisp- walking in Tall Oaks cloud forest is like being transcended. I came down this trip to run a trail race in the area- an amazing and difficult experience. I... More

In this instance the rainbow for me was the 9km drive once off the Pan-American Highway. It's an unpaved road very hilly, twisty and slippery at this time of year. I never have the opportunity to off-road in London and as we'd rented a 4x4 (An absolute MUST if hiring a car in Costa Rica) this was a bit of... More

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights just to make my life long dream of seeing the Quetzals come true! Decent rooms, beautiful location, and the restaurant had a good spread at the buffet. Since we are vegetarians, they gladly accommodated us and the chef made us a couple of great meals. We hired a guide recommended... More

Sadly, I only stayed one night in this place, but I really enjoyed it; it was my favorite place out of 6 places I stayed in Costa Rica. For starters, it's an unusual location and the story of the family who began it is inspiring, to say the least. It is beautiful, yet low key. Our room had a fireplace,... More

This lodge is at 7500' so can be very cold in the morning and evening, but warm during the day. I stayed in a superior chalet with large comfortable bed, safe, coffee making facilities, heater, log fire, hanging space, clock/radio and a sunken bath. There was plenty of hot water. It is set in beautiful, colourful gardens with lots of... More

An excellent place to kick back and watch hummingbirds by the dozens! We stayed here with family and friends - the accommodations were excellent and the food at the lodge was very good, if a little repetitive. This is primarily a birder's paradise (isn't all of Costa Rica?). The hummingbirds feed aggressively from the numerous feeders throughout the lodge's well... More

Final location on our photo tour. great site with excellent accommodations. There is a actual fireplace in the rooms. The place is known for its birding with many different species. The food was good and fresh but served buffet style so some of the food dried out in the servers
