The road to get there is very steep and narrow in places but its worth it! The grounds are well maintained, various fruits and flowers and a good variety of birds. Sometimes you even can spot a quetzal! It can get cold at night but the rooms all have space heaters, if needed. The pictures don't do it justice!

We stayed here last winter for a blissful week. The hotel is clean, spacious and elegant in a rustic way. The grounds are gorgeous and the fireplace, lodge area is very relaxing. It's expensive but it's very nice. Great opportunity to see humming birds around their feeders and incredible bird watching all along the hiking trails above the lodge.

Beautiful hotel, spacious room, great food, great service, gorgeous gardens and many bird photographers everywhere! We too came for bird watching but also for the total outdoor experience it has to offer, mountains, trails, river, waterfall hikes and more! For us the most special part of our stay was the privilege of spending two day and one night excursion with... More

We spent two nights at this charming alpine style lodge at the tail end of a 2.5 week trip to Costa Rica. The hotel is at the bottom of a steep, narrow and in many places unpaved mountain road, around 10km from the highway (well, I say 'highway' but Route 2 or the Cerro de la Muerte' is basically a... The rooms were very nice. Pleasantly surprised. Just a small heater in the room. It is cold here. My feet have not warmed up yet. They did have some heavy blankets for the bed. The restaurant was buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stayed 3 nights. I have seen the same meal all three nights and at lunch.... More

We went to this resort for the day, we hiked, did some birding and relaxed by the river. Beautiful place. A lot of hummingbirds and other birds in abundance. This is a popular place, so expect a crowd, we seen some very unusal birds at this location.

We stayed in an individual "cabin." The location is excellent with lots of birds and especially hummers around the feeders. We're birders and photographers. We did not see a quetzel. So, we have an excuse to go back. We stayed two nights and did not bird intensively and saw 30 new life birds. I spent a couple of hours at... More

Rooms are spacious, comfortable beds. It van get cold at nights, but the beds have thick blankets and keep you warm. Restaurant is great. After a harrowing drive through San Jose and windy mountain dirt roads to get here, my husband and I finally arrived at the Savegre Hotel. The minute we drove through the gate over the river, we knew we were in paradise! Birders from all over the world were in full force throughout the lush grounds, cameras and binoculars in hand.... Nice hotel with a lot of trails, Rooms were nice I should of booked one with a fireplace but the space heater kicked out really good. This is at the bottom of the road close to the waterfalls. Beautiful place. Bring warm clothes and a coat as this is in the mountains
