We stayed here for two nights on an organised bird watching tour of Costa Rica. The accomodation is in bungalows which range around beautiful gardens. Each room is a very good size and has a well appointed en-suite. The trails available from here are some of the best we found during our holiday, some are steep but there is transport... More

We drove to Savegre Hotel on a dark and rainy evening. Take it slow, the road is very steep with many back switches. Woke up in Paradise. This property's gardens are full of birds and tropical flowers. Well maintained bungalow style accommodations, clean and comfortable. Don't stay indoors, venture into the pristine jungle and well maintained and marked trails. Bring... More

We're seniors (80 & 82) who like independent travel, good food, wildlife, and hiking. Savegre has it all. We took a bus from San Jose, Savagre arranged a taxi to meet our bus on the highway. No problem. Room was great, shower nice and spacious. Buffet very good especially salad bar and desert table. Best tortella chips you'll find anywhere.... More

Starting in the morning surrounded by hummingbirds, hot coffee and a delicious breakfast, it´s time to start walking, with a lot of trails to do and two awesome waterfalls around the area, falling from one of the cleanest river in Costa Rica. Certainly as I told you, a perfect lodge in a perfect area, Huh! But I have not finished... More

This hotel is amazing when you want to see all kind of birds. Specially the Res Quetzal. The rooms are maybe a bit old but the bar and restaurant are okay. Most of the employees are friendly and helpful.

Amazing place; amazing family story as told by Marino Chacon, son of the founder. Unable to find a single thing we didn't love. Fireplace in our room (and, yes, at 7,000+ altitude it is chilly) the most beautiful gardens ever (how DO they get that variety of flowering plants?) and birds of all kinds. The Resplendent Quetzals put on quite... More

The final lodge on our parrot birding tour. Wonderful journey up and then down the well made road into a beautiful oak forest wooded valley. Great birds everywhere. The pair of Quetzal whom are on the payroll performed and after some time the sulphur winged parakeets showed in the apple orchard. Half price happy hour was a nice attraction and... More

As others have said the road down to Savegre Lodge is not for the un-experienced or faint-hearted driver - narrow winding and full size buses go up and down it! However, when we got there, the room was comfortable, the buffet food was OK (certainly not the 4 stars they have attached to their name), but the birds were great.... More

We stayed at Savegre for two nights and were blessed with close sightings of Resplendent Quetzals each day. The property is located as others have written in a deep, long valley, which is difficult to get to but worth every hairpin turn! Many trails in the area but at 7800 feet above sea level, make sure you are in good... More

This hotel is set deep within a deep and steep sided valley within the cloud forest zone. It is difficult to get to via a narrow un-surfaced windy road. Although there are individual houses around - mainly San Jose holiday homes - the valley is tranquil, set in the mountains where the air is pure and clear. It is a... More
