My wife and I spent three days at Savegre lodge in July and loved it. The purpose of our trip was to hike on Cerro del la Muerte. We rented a car from Poas in Alejuela (a good experience). The ride was uneventful except for getting lost for a while in San Jose and gets "interesting" as you descend the... More

After 3 days in the jungle, the stop at Savegre was a welcome relieve for out group. After a long drive through the beautiful country side of Costa Rica, we arrived at this beautiful mountain oasis. This stop was a thrill as we were looking for a sighting of the Resplendent Quetzal and we were in luck. There was a... More

This wonderful Eco friendly lodge is in the middle of the Cloud Forest in Costa Rica. Getting there from San Hose Airport was an adventure in itself. It was 3.5 hours of driving up (11,500 feet above sea level). Literally into the clouds. We were not sure what to expect. It was magnificent. The rooms are basic but clean and... More

We got a promo from Yuplón (sort of Groupon in the US), two nights for two half price. Which is a great way to attract local tourists who don't mind traveling during rainiy season. We checked in on Friday, just in time for dinner and checked out on Sunday. The staff is really nice, the food was great and with... More

we stayed 2 nights for a romantic getaway and had a blast. Room was spacious, squeaky clean and with large comfy bathroom. They even decorated it for us with rose petals. It does get a little chilly at night so we had to use the portable heater. Food was ok, bar was great but a little pricey. We had amazing... More

My goals for the entire trip to Costa Rica were to enjoy a trip with friends and to see the Resplendent Quetzal. I achieved both of these goals and part of that had to do with our stay at Savegre Hotel. We were able to see the nesting spot for the bird and get some very incredible photos. The setting... More

It is amazing how many hotels don't meet what I consider basic requirements. Comfortable bed with variable weights of bedding, enough pillows and good reading light. Provision for more than one suitcase. A bathroom that has space for personal items on the vanity. Comfortable seating so that you don't have to sit or lie on the bed. Add an open... More

Savegre is amazing for scenery and wildlife but the difference in temperature after other places in C Rica comes as a shock particularly as the room heating was a bit inadequate. Some malfunction of the toilet just after our arrival but strangely it was fine for the rest of our stay. The bar and restaurant were not particularly welcoming and... More

We arrived at this hotel from Arenal Observatory Lodge. It was a five hour trip and we had arranged our transport through Savegre. The driver was outstanding - and had a difficult trip in wet weather and public holiday traffic! She was so calm and competent - unlike our trip via taxi to Arenal several days earlier! So we were... My goal in staying at this lodge was to view and photograph the Resplendent Quetzal. I had this was the best chance to see this magnificent bird, and I wasn't disappointed. My goal was achieved the first afternoon. The hummingbird feeders were also a delight, with added perches for the photographer in mind. Birding aside, the grounds were quite attractive... More
