Jewel of a place to stay. Eco-conscious. I loved the large, clean rooms, the beautiful surroundings, the wonderful food. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Caters to birders and naturalists with several on-sight trails. Also saw at least a dozen different varieties of hummingbirds at the table side feeders. Serene atmosphere throughout.

Very nice standard rooms, good food, exellent staff and beautiful gardens. Good prices and tours to enjoy the beautiful San Gerardo de Dota town. Peacefully and quit, a perfect place for rest and bird watching surround by the cleanest river of Costa Rica, Savegre River.

Savegre is located at 7,200 ft elevation, at the end of a 6 mile twisting dirt and gravel road off a main highway, about a 2 hr drive from San Jose. The road is bumpy and dusty; but once you cross the Savegre River, a small, bubbly stream and enter the hotel complex, you’ll immediately enjoy the peace and beauty... More

The pretzels are for those who cannot spell Quetzal, we spotted 2 Resplendant Quetzels in the vicinity of the hotel, plus a significant number of other birds in the grounds. Our suite was superb, comfortable and clean, and with wi-fi too. Trout is a culinary feature here, being so close to trout farms - cooked in different styles, never disappointing.... More

Savegre was recommended to us for bird-watching, and we were so glad we went. Two months ahead of our April stay, weekends were already booked, so we stayed only one night instead of the two we desired. Our one dinner & one breakfast were quite good. While we were at first dismayed to discover buffets at both meals, the food... More

This place is magic. The hotel is nestled in a small, picturesque valley and is teeming with bird life. I have never seen so many beautiful hummingbirds within a few inches of my head or hand. We also saw the both the male and female resplendent Quetzals which were amazing. The chalets are very spacious, clean, have lovely hot showers... More

This is 7 kilometers down a precarious mostly dirt road but worth the drive. It is a lovely family run Eco property with lots of flowers and birds, especially hummingbirds. Rooms are individual cabins, nicely laid out but the tub is hard to get in and out and slippery when showering. It gets quite chilly here in the evening and... More

Great spot for both birders and bird photographers. Lots of knowledgable staff to help with birding sites and viewing spots. In 3 days we must of viewed more than 25 dif spieces of birds. Rooms are confortable with large bathrooms and bathtubs. Rooms get very cool at night so the space heater in the room came in handy. No TV... More

This is a sprawling property with beautiful accommodations. The rooms are spacious and clean. All are bordering on lush, green forest habitat...great habitat for birds and animal life. Food was excellent, with many choices from the buffet meal options. They offer a "happy hour! " Two drinks for the price of one, if ordered before 6PM. There were hummingbird feeders... More

My husband and I and another couple birding couple spent two nights (and three glorious days) at this beautiful spot in the Costa Rican highlands. Every moment, from the friendly greeting at check-in to the gracious farewell at check-out, was a joy. The cabins were spotless, the beds were excellent, and the bathroom (with tub large enough for two) was... More
