Suenos Del Bosque is the next to last accomodation as you descend the steep road into the narrow gorge-like valley cut into the surrounding mountains by the Savegre River. Many people visit this area to see one magnificent bird: the resplendent quetzal; but there is much more to discover. Trout fishing is excellent. The "town" consists of a school and... More

Amazing drive to this beautiful mountain valley location. A real must see. Great hikes and wonderful staff. We stayed 2 nights in one of the lovely quiet cabins with full kitchen so you can cook a few meals on your own. The restaurant had a fabulous selection of local dishes and traditional meals at good prices. It had great wifi... More

Best place we visited during our 1st Costa Rica 4 location tour (Manuel Antonio, Drake bay, Arenal, San Dorado de Dota). Beautiful, cool, and unspoiled mountain retreat without a lot of tourists. Restaurant was the best with 3 course dinner for only $12 at the highest quality as the fancy place in US. Make sure try the local trout in... More

We love this place! It is small and rustic, surrounded by great scenery, trails in the property, easy horseback rides, restaurants up the road and even a great spa at the neighboring hotel. Great birdwatching and nature photography all over! The lodge has a restaurant and breakfast included. We've stayed at a variety of cabins in this place. There is... More

Four of us stayed here for three nights in this wonderful spot and as they were our last nights in CR it made for a great finale to a three week trip. Two of us were sharing a 'cottage' which overlooked the lake and comprised of two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a sitting/kitchen/dining area down stairs, plus three double... More

I was delighted with the nature surrounding the place, the service, the peacefulness, everything. The activities were exciting, although the hiking was a little bit frightening. The crops were interesting

This is a very beautiful property, very hard to find, and best suited for staying put for a few days. The birds and flowers are beautiful, and there is a little trail to a secret waterfall. We are not bird watchers but it was nice to hear all the chirping in the morning. We arrived at night, do not arrive... More

This hotel was so cozy and perfect for the location up in the mountains. The cabinas are kept very clean and the service was wonderful. Make sure you order trout for dinner and take a look at the farms down the road. Follow signs to the waterfall trail and at the end you'll get to an incredible view of a... More

We stayed here two nights while on a bird watching tour. The beds were very comfortable with lots of blankets for a cozy nights sleep. The family who owns and operates this small hotel are part of the original family who founded the valley in the early 1950s. The dinning hall is new and a little fancy for me. The... More

Though I am not a serious birdwatcher, I visited San Gerardo de Dota primarily to see the resplendant quetzal. I am happy to say that I saw four over the course of two days, all of which were on the grounds or on the trail network of this small hotel. I saw dozens of other types of birds, butterflies, and...
