My friend and I were very lucky to have a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the river. We were on the top floor with splendid views. The one downfall was that there were no telephones in the rooms. If there were any problems, illness etc., there was no contact and the reception was not open 24 hours.... More

this place is horrible I do not recommend staying here. I came in in june 2015 and it hasn't changed since the last time I came in 2014, its absolutely vile. I strongly disagree with how the staff serve the food, they are rude and there is always something that is undercooked on my plate. I felt ill on the... More

Staff seemed to rush you at meals, and no indication when bar was to close. 1 night it closed at 11, next night at 1 in morning, then at midnight. Also nothing to do in the hotel in evening except drink. Swimming pool ok.

I stayed at this hotel a week ago whilst visiting the Christmas markets. Unfortunately so did a good many other people and this caused some problems. At least 2 coaches arrived together and probably 4 coaches were leaving at the same time on the last morning. The food was OK, not wonderful but adequate and a bit of a 'Hobson's... More

We were slightly apprehensive about staying here having read the previous reviews but, all in all, we were pleasantly surprised. Like the vast majority of other reviewers, we stayed here for 3 nights on a coach trip, our one was to visit Christmas markets. There were at least 4 coaches staying at the hotel when we were there, and unfortunately,... More

The hotel was clean and the breakfast was good, however if you don't book half board they do not offer you much choice for the evening meal or tell you where you can go somewhere different to eat. There was a nice bistro around the corner, which gave you a choice. If the coaches had been staggered on departure then... More

Have just returned from this hotel on a Newmarket trip - it seems to me folks want champagne style at beer prices!! Yes, it's basic but it was a warm bed, clean room, plentiful breakfast and the evening meals whilst not top notch were perfectly acceptable at the price. And the wine was very good. The worst part was the... More

This hotel offers basic facilities but having read previous reviews we were prepared with our own toiletries. Our rooms at the rear of hotel were huge with ensuite wet room. The decor may have been dated but everything was spotless. Breakfast was continental and plentiful offering cold meat cheese, boiled eggs, cereal, chopped fruit and yoghurt. Fresh crispy rolls, rye... More

The Anker Hotel was chosen not by us but by the tour company "Just Go" with whom we booked in order to visit the German Christmas Markets in Cologne and Rudesheim. This involved a midnight start for the long coach drive to Dover. Then for the ferry crossing and a further lengthy drive to the hotel at which time it... More

this hotel is very isolated with no amenities close by. Food terrible, rooms very basic, no sound insulation. Would advise anyone visiting a German market to avoid staying at this hotel. Two markets in The vicinity but very small and expensive and difficult to reach from the hotel
