Take no notice of the poor reviews as this is good value bed & breakfast. It is not an hotel or a restaurant - it is a basic very good B & B with the added advantage that you get a licensed bar, an option of a good evening meal and a pleasant guest lounge. The house rule that the... More

We arrived just before 9pm and were met by very friendly owners who booked us in with the minimum of fuss and made us feel very welcome. They heard that we had just eaten a dreadful meal in a nearby Little Chef and instantly told us where to find extra biscuits for our room should we feel hungry later. The... More

Awful establishment!! Read a couple of reviews and thought we would give the benefit of the doubt, had to cancel due to serious medical emergency, they were very rude and unhelpful. Lots of other nice establishments around the area to choose from. DONT use Booking.Com either! They are just as bad, awful customer service! Would advise to book independently.

The White Horse is just off the main A14 just outside Bury St Edmonds. It is easy to find. Downstairs is a bit dated but the welcome is good. My room was amazing, a little suite, with a lovely anteroom, with TV, coffee tables and leather sofa. Into the bedroom, lovely oak plank furniture and a very comfy bed. En-suite... More

This is an awful awful awful place to stay. The hotel owners, specifically the woman who runs it - Anne I think her name is - is rude and obnoxious and has the customer service skills of a cave man coming across a wild bore when he has not eaten for a week. she runs the pub (I use this... More

We really enjoyed our stay and found the staff and owners to be very pleasant and helpful. We ate our evening meal there; very nice fresh cooked food. The room was on the small side but it was cosy with a comfortable bed. The hotel has a very interesting history; ask about it if you can. The breakfast was really... More

Myself and a business colleague booked here for nine nights, and stayed two, due to the poor accomodation, and the hotels cancellation policy. We had the Fakenham, and Aintree rooms on the third floor. Both rooms were disgusting, they were very old, and dated, the woodchip wallpaper was peeling off the wall, the curtains were mouldy, the sash window was... More

Aintree sweet, poor heating and lots of buzzy flys. If you put your ear near the ceiling you can hear them buzzing in the attic, maybe a body up there or something. They are obviously aware of the problem because of the cans of raid fly killer in the room. Definitely won't be coming back here again.

Barely adequate facilties. The radiator in my Aston "Suite" (a tiny room - I thought a suite was a number of rooms?) was not working (December) and an oil-filled radiator had to suffice. Menus and paper work was grubby and well-thumbed - and out-of-date. Proprietors said we could eat there that evening, but didn't seem keen that we should do... More

Seriously do not understand the negative reports, several of our group had booked rooms, we had the Newmarket Suite, when we arrived we had a warm welcome from Anne, who kindly advised us of the local taxi firms. Our room was clean, extremely comfortable bed, toiletries, heaters (even a fan), hair drier, lovely shower everything you need to be honest.... More
