I was swept up in the idealism of Rancho Margot and floated along on that wave throughout my short stay even though there were some rumblings of dissent during our visit. The focus on sustainability is an attraction and while I don't know sustainability "best practices" it seemed as if the staff is engaged in experimenting with organic and sustainable... More

We absolutely loved Rancho Margot. We visited in April 2009 and found the accomodations, service and facilities to be top notch. I would definitely go back, and expect that I will. I couldn't agree less with the reviewer indicating this is not a "real farm" (whatever that means). My wife and kids and I loved the thorough and fascinating tour... More

Rancho Margot is a gem! Set at the confluence of 3 rainforests, on the shores of Lake Arenal, and very much on the cutting edge of eco-innovation, Rancho Margot provides a fully-rounded and relaxing eco experience, blending pristine nature, great food, friendly, informative staff and beautiful surroundings with a fascinating introduction to visionary energy conservation ideas. My husband and I... More

While Rancho Margot is a beautiful resort, it's attempts at being a sustainable organic farm left a bad taste in my mouth. The owner, Juan, seemed almost like a cult figure with our guide repeatedly mentioned how intelligent he is. The problem is that it seems like Juan thinks one can create an organic farm out of thin air and... More

This was one of the most fabulous places I have ever visited. We lucked out with perfect weather, beautiful views of the volcano, Lake Arenal, and gorgeous tropical rainforest. The temperature was balmy, the breezes relaxing. The staff at Rancho Margot couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. We took advantage of their all-inclusive package and went kayaking, hiking, and... More

Rancho margot is a lovely concept in a beautiful location with well-meaning and nice owners. But it appeared not to be able to keep up with the fame and volume of travelers brought in by the glowing review from the lonely planet. There's a lot of construction and I hope that we just happened to catch it in a rough... More

I read with interest the recent reviews of Rancho Margot. As an English traveller seeking an education for sustainable environments I found my stay last year extremely interesting and great value for money. Whilst not yet perfect in all areas of conservation, Rancho Margot is the first eco tourism project which I have seen that deserves high recognition. Its aims... More

This is a beautiful location and a very interesting place. The owner is trying to do something very laudable and if he is successful, this will be a wonderful place to stay. But, Rancho Margot is very much a work in progress so here are several things to consider: 1) It is expensive--almost $200 a night for three people in... More

This place has its pluses and minuses and overall, I think it is fairly average. For one, it is *not* self-sufficient. The food you eat here is usually bought from town. With the exception of the bananas, yuca, and a few other things like oranges and herbs, it is almost guarenteed that it was purchased and not grown. You are... More

I agree with everybody writing before. The place is stunning. The atmosphere is excellent - not just the wonderful bungalows, the great food, the overall grand and generous idea - it is like the air there is filled with positive and vibrant spirit. The only regret we have is that we only stayed for one night. We met there people... More
