Please note that this review is only about the restaurant at Rancho Margot, not about the lodge. My wife and I were staying at El Castillo, so around 15 minutes drive from Rancho Margot. After reading great reviews about their organic food, we decided to go there for lunch. We were both disapointed with the place and the food. First,... More

March 2014 - My wife and I just returned from a fabulous week at Rancho Margot. This is a tremendous life experience. Juan and Liz have created a way of life that's a model for society. We were extremely pleased with the staff, the hospitality, the bunglow in the rain forest, the hikes, yoga, and the food. Since we were... More

Staying the the Arenal Observatory Lodge, we were attracted by the signs on the road to go to Margots to eat perfect pizza. What a disaster. You pay 20 dollar for the bufet and all you get are a few pieces of dry and cold pizza. The local juice drinks were 80% water. Driving 15 km on a dirtroad....never again.

It's worth the trip to get here! A beautiful, peaceful kind of place that you read about in travel magazines! We stayed in bungalow 7 on the edge of the property. We had toucans outside our window, took an AMAZING horse ride with Aurelio and took in the amenities of the ranch: farm tour, hot/cold pools, and breakfast/lunch/dinner each day.... More

We wondered if it was wise to stay so far away from Arenal but boy would we have been sorry if we had missed staying here, what a treat. The grounds are a botanical garden full of birds attracted to the flowering plants. The private bungalows are spread out throughout the grounds and have garden doors that open on two... More

We had a wonderful dinner at Rancho Margot one night. For about $20, we had unlimited access to an ample buffet, including salads, pizzas, and several entrees and sides. Both meat and vegetarian dishes are available. You can get drinks at the full bar on site.

Absolutely amazing place in the middle of nowhere. It was my first time traveling anywhere alone and so happy I found this place. Few things to consider: - Trip to the ranch: From Liberia airport, it's a 3.5 hrs shuttle ($57, by local company not provided by ranch) then another 45 mins ride ($30 from Tabacon hotel, someone from the... When you come to Costa Rica, you MUST stay at Rancho Margot. What a beautiful experience. Before coming, we were a little nervous not knowing what to expect form an “eco-lodge”. But from the moment we arrived and saw that magical walkway to the office, we knew we had picked the perfect place. We were hoping to stay in a... More

Good buffet. Vegetarian selection best around. Rustic, quiet and quaint. Don't feed the dog please but he is cute. Extremely helpful owner and staff. Laid back even by Tico standards. Check out the grounds, especially the hummingbirds and horses.

First of all, let me say that I did not stay here overnight, so I cannot rate it on the accommodations. However, I did take a tour of this self-sustainable ranch. It is extremely interesting that they do everything themselves and sustainably! I definitely suggest taking a tour of this ranch if you're in the area. While on the tour,... More
