Hidden in the mountains beyond El Castillo, Rancho Margo offers a place to truly be and experience the beauty of costa rica. Basic but charming bungalows dot the hillside and are reached by winding jungle trails. The entire property is bio dynamic and self sufficient. The ranch produces all of its own food and electricity completely off grid. The kids... More

My husband and I visited Rancho Margot in August, 2014. The place is just amazing. Luxurious cabin rooms, tasty food, fun activities, good place to meet new international friends, but the best part was just to sit back on the cabin's balcony and relax and maybe go to yoga offered twice a day. Rancho Margo would have received 5 stars,... More

Take the ranch tour (free) and learn about all the composting and cow milking and farming and water conservation that they do there. It's amazing. Exactly what they mean when someone says sustainable, and person-scale, and natural. Opt for one of the bungaloes, they're a little more expensive, but the privacy and walk through the jungle path is worth it.... More

Thank you for milking cows so we had milk for coffee and for playing with Ginger - she misses you! It is such a delight to read reviews that so beautifully encapsulate the Rancho Margot experience, and we are so thankful that you took the time to write about your time here. Until next time.... ¡PURA VIDA! More

I was needing vacations urgently, specifically a place where I could disconnect from work and the hectic nature of the city and I got what I was looking for at Rancho Margot. The place is kind or retired, at the very end of the road that connects Volcan Arenal with the town of El Castillo, before reaching a river that... More

Rancho Margot is a fascinating experiment in sustainable living and reforestation. A complex of farming, dormitories for volunteers, lodging for tourists, bar and restaurant, we found it fascinating. The tour – approximately two hours – was fun and informative. We learned a tremendous amount about primary versus secondary forest, composting, organic gardening and so forth. We watched nursing sows with... More

We stumbled upon this little magical ranch almost by accident. My aunt, Uncle, cousin and I were traveling from Quepos to Arenal and we decided to stop at a restaurant in Jaco, the name of which I don't remember. My aunt and uncle began to chat with the waitress(an American ex-patriate), who, when she she learned we were traveling to... More

Rancho Margot is a special place in a unique area of the world. I visited upon recommendation of some ex-pat friends from Guancaste and was not disappointed. Our group was two kids (ages 6 and 8), me and my mother in law. All had a great time, even with the constant rains due to El Nino (I have taken to... More

My husband and I spent four days at Rancho Margot. We participated in a number of activities offered at the resort including kayaking the lake near the volcano and hiking to the waterfall. We were the only two on both excursions. Our guide was fantastic about stopping to show us wildlife such as glass wing butterflies, toucans, and monkeys. The... More

Unless you're part of a high school or college tour group or writing a term paper on sustainability, this is not the place to spend precious Costa Rica vacation time. As previous reviewers mentioned, the online photos paint a beautiful picture, but reality is completely different. We went expecting the experience to be rustic and authentic, but we didn't expect... My family travelled from July 16th-28th. We wanted places to stay that would capture the authentic costa rican experience and Eco-friendly lodges. I decided on RanchoMargot for a three night stay in the middle of our 13day trip. I knew it would be more rustic than our other more higher end Eco-lodges that we were staying in but I really...
