4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Great views, clean rooms, good service, and priced reasonably. Yes, a bit far away from the tourist town of La Fortuna, but oh so close to the great trails around Arenal. And a few steps away from a couple of "museums" with snakes, bugs, butterflies and other tropical critters. The rooms are newer than the bungalows. Bathrooms a bit small,... More

Loved this place so much that we returned. It's quiet. Period. No traffic. Simple. Great breakfast AND you have to do the waterfall horseback ride with Guiermo. Family owns small farm and it's not commercial. Book through hotel. Seriously, it's not one of those tourist type rides. It's magical. Your guide takes you through the town a bit and then... More

Basic. Simple. Comes with good size topics breakfast. Good coffee. The rooms have amazing views. No need for luxury living because you should be out enjoying the nature. Great place to lay your head. Eat. Relax. Simple bar on premises. Pool table. Bungalow very quiet and private. You don't need air conditioning here so don't freak out like I saw... More

We booked it based on the area we wanted to be in, not knowing it's a bit further away than expected from La Fortuna. After that journey, wauw, what a view. We booked a room, not a bungalow - room was spacious, ok balcony, super views - as every room/bungalow. We have nothing to complain about. Via the reception we... More

I would rate this hotel 3.5 stars, above average. The grounds are well landscaped and the rooms are a great value; this is one of the most modestly-priced hotels in the area. With that said, the rooms are fairly basic, nothing special. But, they have excellent views of the volcano with peek-a-boo views of the lake. The on-site restaurant is... More

This little piece of heaven is in a genuine little town. The sunset view from our room of the volcano is one of the most beautiful I have seen. the room is cozy and the food is good. We arranged an excellent Zip-line tour (Sky Trek) at the reception desk. Up the hill is the Butterfly Conservatory. misty clouds lay... More

My girlfriend and I traveled via auto across the country. Decided to book at el Castillo and everything was as they said it would be. Nice room, good bed and excellent views!! The room had a little balcony, the restaurantd did a nice job of keeping us fed and the breakfast that was included was tasty and filling. The grounds... More

Negative: We booked this hotel from booking.com and it said that there is AC in the rooms. When we arrived all we got was a little fan in our bungalo that didn't do that much at all. I checked the other bungalos and suits and there is exactly one bungalo that has AC (guess that means you can advertise that... More
