You really have to want to get to Nepenthe because you have to drive on difficult roads for over five miles. And that five miles can take half an hour! But when you get there, the view is simply breathtaking, the stillness causes you to relax instantly, and there is Augustin at reception to give you a warm greeting and... More

We originally stayed at Arenal Observatory Lodge, but when we decided to stay another night we came here, and it was so worth it! The view of the volcano and Lake Arenal is beautiful and the pool and restaurant overlook the wilderness and the lake out to the next volcano. Sunsets are awesome here. Wifi is available at the top... More

Our room overlooked the beautiful gardens and silver , serene lake and Arenal Volcano. The room was very clean and comfortable. Tres Cabras Restaurant owners, Ryan and Rebecca are attentive and friendly and the food is awesome!! Augustine is very helpful and readily available with travel advice. You can't go wrong

We truly enjoyed our stay at Nepenthe! The first stop on our Honeymoon, Nepenthe was the best accommodation we had of our entire trip. While it is a bit of work to reach Nepenthe due to shabby roads leading off of the main paved road, it's totally worth it. The view is stunning. Volcano Arenal to your right and the... More

Lake view, relaxing at the terrace in hammocks and comfortable seats, possibility to have dinner (a must), good and varied breakfast, WiFi (though sometimes weak signal in the room), friendly, helpful and enthousiast staff, quiet location, nice setting, near El Castillo, Arenal Observatory Lodge (great hiking) and SkyTrek (canopy), pool for the hot days. If you have your own car:... More

Nepenthe is an ancient Greek word for a "drug of forgetfulness" and that's what this place does for you. Ryan and Rebecca are the couple that run this place and you veel right at home. The view is amazing. The rooms are big and clean. The food made by Rebecca is truly delicious and the music from Ryan is pleasant... More

When we arrived, it was dark and you couldn't see much, but you were certainly aware of the ROAD driving there. Be prepared for a bumpy ride. But in the morning, the sounds of the jungle greet you early which is very nice and it's cool with the windows open (keep the screens closed). The bungalows are quaint, nothing too... More

Just returned from our trip to Costa Rica and already missing Nepenthe. The view is out of this world, the pool and hot tub are perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring the area, and the cabins are perfect. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning to the sounds of the jungle. Ryan, Agustin, and Rebecca... More

Nepenthe is worth the drive up the hill. The view of the Laguna Arenal is breathtaking and almost outdoes the volcano itself. The rooms are comfortable and Augustin is very helpful at the front desk. Any time we needed transport or tours booked we only had to mention it at breakfast and he was on it. Close to the hot... More

This is a very special place in a gorgeous area. The views of the volcano and the lake are spectacular, and this area of Arenal is less touristy than Fortuna, and was quiet and peaceful. It is close to the ziplining which was scary good. The staff were wonderful, and the addition of the restaurant really made it a great... More
