The eco lodge is located inland about 12 miles from the main Tamarindo Beach on the side of a hill, which is mostly still vegetated. You hear and may get to see Howler Monkeys. Each cabin is simple but has air conditioning and warm showers. The main area of the lodge is open to the elements, but high enough to... More

Location is about 17km from main tamarindo beach. Quaint, clean and beautiful. Still feels like you're in Costa Rica. The tamarindo town area is way too commercialized. Breakfast was basic but nice ( toast, cereal, fruits, juice, coffee). Eggs and omelet were extra but not expensive. Nice pool overlooking the valley. The cabin was clean, had AC, decent furniture and... More

Stayed here for 4 days in December 2014. It's located about 15 minutes from Tamarindo ($15 cab ride), and an hour (with no traffic) from LIR airport. Shared cab is $30, private cab is $70. The lodge has 10 cabins, free (basic) breakfast, a small but nice pool, free internet (works great near pool and bar, works ok but not... More

My friend Alonso and two friends visiting from California spent three days at El Sabanero. The hotel is lovely, clean peaceful and above all well run. The two Austrian owners are kind, Helpful and out to assure their guests comfort. I live in Costa Rica and have experienced a wide range of lodging possibilities. El Sabanero will be a recommendation... More

I stayed in El Sabanero back in July, and a review is well over due. For starters, Harold was very patient and extremely helpful on the actual way to Guanacaste. We decided not to get a gps (big mistake) but he gave us instructions as best as he could to get us to the lodge- as Costa Rica has not... More

I brought my Yoga school here, Drishti Yoga Teacher Training, and we stayed for 24 nights in March of 2014. We run trainings around the world and require a certain level of ease when it comes to accommodation. El Sabanero's staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They genuinely wanted myself, business partner and 21 students to be happy. They went... More

My family (me, my husband, two pre-teens and mother-in-law) had a great time staying here. We stayed for 6 nights. It is a very relaxed and down to earth place. The pool and deck are are beautiful. The meals are delicious and affordable. The rooms are simple and clean. The grounds are lovely and the staff is super nice. We... More

We stayed for two nights here and wished it could have been more. The cabins are perfect and rustic and spaced well enough apart to feel secluded. Host was amazing and friendly and knew much about the area. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.

The location is ok, it could have been closer to the beach. The facilities were clean but simple, no luxury vibes. We were really impressed by the owners' s service: we got meals cooked to orders, great advices regarding the area ....
