Stayed at Grinton Lodge YH on weekend 8 Aug 2014. Great food and good value for money. Good friendly service also......far better than The Bridge which we ate there the Friday eve... in which we wont bother again. Really recommend The Buck Inn.

Great pub and place to stay on Wainwright''s coast to coast walk. Our accommodation was clean and comfortable and we also had an excellent evening meal in the bar. The food was great including excellent pizzas. There was a great buzz about the place and the hotel is very attractive with lots of atmosphere. Great service and friendly staff too.... More

We have eaten here before when staying nearby and returned last week. They were very friendly and accomodating by helping us find a suitable table when it was busy, especially as we had our very young dog with us for her first visit to a pub! She was even given a dog buscuit from behind the bar! The food was... More

The Buck was our 2 nighter on c2c as we took a rest day on 2 week walk. I love Reeth and a days chill and recovery were in order. The accommodation is basic, rooms are a good size and facilities very good. Breakfast was definitely wholesome and hearty.

Our rambling club recently had a meal in the function room of the Buck Hotel - after a wonderful trek around various parts of Swaledale. There were about forty of us in the group. We have used this venue on several previous occasions - both for meals and for light refreshments after our walking expeditions. As usual, on our last... More

...was a disaster. My family was visiting my brother for the weekend and as he'd kept on about how wonderful the pizzas at the Buck are we went for a takeaway Sunday evening as our last meal before a very early start on Monday morning. We found out that the large oven wasn't working after the weekend, fair enough, these... More

We are a group of five friends who recently stayed in The Buck Hotel en route on the Coast to Coast Walk. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed and the hotel provided a range of meal options and an extensive wine list. We were able to get good wifi reception in the bar. The breakfasts were impressive with a wide... More

The pub is cozy and welcoming and the food is adequate. The hotel itself is quite shabby although sufficient for a tired Coast to Coaster. The breakfast was extremely slow even though there weren't that many people there. We found the staff reasonable but not chatty and fun as we have encountered in many other villages.

I would like to thank Barb from Canada for the review. However, we are at a loss at the 'shaby' comment. The reviewer stayed in the past few days, but the entire accommodation block had quality new carpets laid down just 4 weeks ago. In addition it was redecorated in March of this year. We are sorry that the breakfast... More

Functional hotel on the C2C route. Clean with hot shower and reasonable breakfast. Dinner below standard - soggy batter on fish and greasy chips - school boy errors for a clientele that has simple needs. Ale good but not many choices.

We are pleased that this reviewer thought the hotel is clean, showers hot and was happy with the breakfast. Our Fish & Chips are very popular both with the locals [we also do a take-away service] and visitors so we are sorry they were not to his/her taste. With regard to ales, there is a choice of five real ales... More

Have visited The Buck a few times in the past mainly to see the live bands they have on. This was just like the other times, Lovely people & staff, good food & drink, nice & clean. The Buck Hotel is a former Coaching Inn which dates from circa 1760 and is located at the village of Reeth's main cross roads and where a turnpike was in operation two centuries ago. The C2C goes past the front door, so the Buck is very popular with walkers. The Buck retains its traditional oak beamed bar with interesting horse brasses and an amazing collection of door knockers! In 2012 the Buck achieved 6th position in Yorkshire's Favourite Pub competition from over 600 nominated pubs. With an excellent reputation for real ales and ciders the Buck has been awarded the 2013 Cask Marque [for quality Real ales] and is featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2013.There is a good and varied menu with daily specials, which includes everything from Steaks to Fish & Chips and Game when in season. If you like a whisky, there are over 70 to choose from and the wine list is very popular.
