Amazing property for a holiday, newly renovated extra spacious rooms with huge comfy beds and beautiful design. Friendly and super helpful staff. Both breakfasts and dinners were unbelievebly good - mu husband still dreams about them, I think ;). Quick drive to lovely beaches of Santona. Our stay was so wonderful that we decided to stay extra night and really... More

We booked it as a dog-friendly hotel but with all the ancient furniture and artworks around, we decided to keep our pooch in her cage most of the time. In late March it was pretty cold (though warmed up a lot later in the week). The radiator in our room was inadequate but the aircon unit gave out just enough... More

gourmet couple's break in cantabria for our anniversary - what a find! we flew from edinburgh to santander, hired a car, and within 30 minutes of beautiful countryside driving, found ourselves in this 17th century marquis' residence. sumptuous furnishings, very well appointed bedrooms, beautiful eclectic artwork and vases, but the main delight was the vast garden, full of beautiful flowers,... We stayed at the end of August and although the room we were allocated was possibly one of their best, something was missing. One had the feeling that the owners had lost interest. The building itself was full of charactor and the garden quite beautiful. However, nothin seemed to be used. Considering it was high season ( and a time... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2012, an old, renovated mansion with many original features. The staff were most welcoming and helpful, the food mostly good. The Tasting menu (45 Euros) would introduce you to Spanish cuisine, but beware the chef makes liberal use of decorative peppercorns and (worst of all) salt; best to ask for "no sal"... More

We visited this hotel because it featured in our red Michelin guide. We explored the gardens while waiting for the restaurant to open , and found them delightful. We considered the works of art in the restaurant somewhat curious. Although it was Sunday lunchtime, only 2 other tables were occupied. Perhaps everyone else was at the beach. The salmon was... More

This hotel is still great. It's now in hotels.com, and doesn't have a Michelin star, but it is still charming. The art collection is fantastic, the grounds are beautiful, and the rooms are nicely furnished with typically Sanish decor, well equipped and comfortable. Our two issues were that the dining room didn't open fr dinner until 9, and the Internet... More

We booked the San Roman as our last stop of a week's holiday in Northen Spain, partly because of positive reviews mentioning a Michelin star and Relais & Chateaux status. We should have checked more carefully. Unfortunately it no longer has a Michelin recommendation and although the hotel's website claims that it is in the R & C group, this... More

We stayed in this excellent four star hotel for two nights prior to taking the ferry from Santander to Plymouth. The accomodation was in a large deluxe suite with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden and fields. The room was spacious, clean and furnished with interesting pictures and furniture. The staff were very friendly and efficient helping us with interesting... More

We stayed at this Hotel for 4 nights. On the positive side we had a very large room with a large terrace facing the garden, all very nice. It was clean and well planned. The building is made in such a way that all the time you have creeks and noise from the walls. We told the reception about this... More
