Amazing building and rooms. The restoration has been sympathetic and the bedrooms have great character as well as comfort. The restaurant was good (we ate there on 6 nights) and although the menu del dla (18 euros including wine) was a little repetitive the exceptional dining room team arranged changes to ensure variety each night. As we didn't want to... More

Nice room with views of the surrounding countryside. Comfortable will all you would expect. The building itself is worth a look and has been tastefully restored except for the top floor where we were that is painted in a kind of odd picasso style. We didn't try the restaurant or bar and there is a small splash pool but other... More

Lovely restored real baroque palace. Full impression of 18 century atmosphere, in nice rural landscape, far from city noise. Spacious clean room with baroque-style furniture. Good cousin, friendly stuff.

A beautiful old palace restored in a quirky way. The restaurant is not up to much but is pretty good value if you are too tired to drive anywhere else. The joy of this area is trips up in the mountains which offer amazing views. The splash pool was great for the kids and is rare in hotels in this... More

An amazing historical building, worth a visit just to see the decor. We stayed 3 nights through Brittany ferries at the start of a tour in our motorhome. It was too good a deal to pass up as we had been recommended by a relative. Room was good if a bit dark but the view made up for it. We... More

We had lunch twice in the restaurant . We enjoyed the choice of traditional Spanish peasant food, which suits our diet. The standard of service is very high. We did not notice any food out of tins and packets. We chose a stew with beans and sausage, and a starter of gazpacho. There was a free aperitif , not so... More

Booked and paid for in advance through Brittany Ferries as the base for our car touring holiday, on arrival we wondered whether in fact we had only paid the deposit! As the ferry to Bilbao and 4 nights b&b had only cost £500 per couple. The service was terrific and the room and hotel decor magnificent. Breakfast was breathtaking with our... More

This hotel has managed to escape the clutches of the major guide books but has found its way onto Trip Advisor and it was a great find. It is a small converted palace hence the name; but not sure what it has to do with Abba; We gather "abba" is prefix for a hotel chain and not a reference to... More

A beautiful 5* hotel in a rural setting! The hotel is located on the outskirts, the lobby has a wonderful luxurious feel in a country setting. The lobby´s decor is unexpected with bright, loud colours and comfy chairs. The stairwell, running through the centre, leads to an amazing domed ceiling. I loved it ... the reception staff were friendly and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in the Baroque style of the 18th century, this former palace is surrounded by the wonderful countryside of the Carriedo Valley, in the green region of Cantabria. The Palacio de Soñanes was originally built in 1719 by a local noble family. To this day it retains many original stone features which add to the charm of this luxury hotel. You can also climb the enchanting Renaissance staircase at the building’s heart. Dine at the hotel’s splendid à la carte restaurant, Iniro, where you can choose from delicious local dishes and more modern cuisine. Accompany your meal with one of the 175 varieties of wine available in the palace’s own cellar. The decor in each of the guest rooms matches the palace’s traditional elegance. Rich fabrics blend with exquisite carpets and luxury, antique-style furnishings – ideal for a romantic getaway. ... more   less
