me and my partner were eating the same night as the people on the last review, and i must say that they caused trouble for everybody that evening. i have no doubt in my mind that those people can over to the pelican to make trouble. the food and service here is fabulous and i hope people will make up their... We decided to eat at the Pelican as they advertise rare breed near, well the rare breed was not rare breed, the portion size for one of our party was pathetic and when we asked too see the chief "he was too busy with service" to come and see us...there was about six people eating of which we made up... Extremely comfortable room, very efficient at reception and pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast was excellent. Only negative comment was the noise nuisance caused by kids rolling around in the bar but this seems to be fairly common these days.

I cannot understand the negative reviews! I stayed at The Pelican with no previous knowledge of the place, just a rating of 8.2 on booking.com. However, I arrived at a very well kept, warm and clean pub and was checkied in quickly and efficiently and shown to my room - clean, tidy and well decorated. I ate in the restaurant... More

Visited for lunch today to celebrate my birthday with friends, not been here for quite a few months now and it appears to be under new ownership? The food really is superb albeit maybe a little pricey. However, the service was awful. So slow with no explanation or apologies until questioned as we paid the bill. They said they were... More

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Hereford. We were met by a very happy lady who appeared with our wine almost as soon as we had ordered. Teh savignan was excellent and the red my lady had was of equal quality she told me. We ordered steak sandwiches and we did not expect to have almost a... More

It is easy to find, being on the A4, and there is plenty of free parking. On arrival the staff were not overly friendly, but they were not rude or unfriendly either. We were just shown to the room, given a flask with some milk for making tea and coffee and told a few facts. There was no chat or... More

At the last minute we decided to take a couple of days away. Whilst the forcast was ok I looked for somewhere we could cope with rain or shine, being the antique shops of Hungerford or walking the Kennett & Avon canal. We lucked out with glorious weather and the walking was great. Having found vacancies over the bank hol... More

The food, atmosphere and staff in The Pelican are all second to none. The food is first class and I eat there almost every week and I have never had anything that was short of delicious! I would strongly reccomend this pub to anyone who enjoys great food at good prices in a friendly and relaxed environment. Thank you!

we stopped here on the way back from Reading....nice setting, lovely clean pub, started off having to ask for a pint of beer to be topped up as it was short in the glass. Red wine was very nice. My other half ordered pork belly with calvados sauce and seasonal veg with creamy mash....what he got was Pork belly with... More
