This castle hotel has an old-world charm which makes it very special. The building itself is spectacular, perched on a hilltop with it's own turret providing panoramic views of the beautiful Rioja region. It also boasts a sun-soaked terrace where the attentive and friendly staff will recommend reasonably priced wines and tasty snacks such as croquettes and delicious slices of... More

We have enjoyed many places in Spain having a home in Barcelona for 30 years. This year we experienced in this castle magical pleasures created by the Hotelier, Owner, Javier. In the The 17th Century the castle once was owned by a family. Javier after 18 years of devotion to his passion has created a beautiful and unique hotel of... More

We have already booked an hotel by the time we bumped into this beautiful one while walking around Laguardia. So we just sopped there for a lunch. Javier, you make our lunch magnificent. You have been our host, our waiter, food runner, barman, it was amazing to see someone like you, so kind and truly passionate to make us discover... More

We were so glad that we chose el Castillo el Collado for our stay in Laguardia. We originally planned only one night there, but it was so nice that we decided to extend to a second night. The rooms are all different and greatly appointed; and service is impecable. The place was clean and the owner, Javier, was always most... More

We are so pleased we chose the Castillo el Collado as our home when we were on a wine tour in Rioja. The hotel has been with the same family for 65 years and is now run by Señor Javier Acillona. We were given a warm welcome and taken to our room La Fabula (the Fable in English) which was... More

This was our (wife and I) first trip to Rioja and we were very happy to have stayed in the Castillo El Collado. We stayed in the "Love and Madness" room for 4 nights and the views from that room were amazing. Javier was excellent in his service and hospitality. He always seemed to go above and beyond what you... More

We stayed at the Castillo el Collado for 2 nights. The views from the Love and Madness room were absolutely amazing - along with the shower and clawfoot tub! Couldn't have beat that. The only reason we would not give this 5 stars is that the bed was incredibly hard (and I like hard beds) and the pillows were well-used... More

Rarely is a hotel truly special, so much a part of its locale that you can't imagine that place without thinking of where you stayed. And rarely is a place this special so affordable. Hotel Castillo El Collado offers brilliant, personalized service, wonderful food and lots of extras. I hope it's not an endangered species given the contemporary chain-managed hotels... More

The location is great and the owner Javier is kind. Somehow though, we left with a slightly bad taste in our mouths. Why? Maybe because we felt a little pressured to eat dinner there on the night we arrived. (While making the hotel reservation, Javier said it was "usual" to do that, long pause, did I want to do that?)... More

Hotel Castillo El Collado was a bit of a pig to find. But when we did it was worth the wait. A fine establishment which was actually a castle attached to the walls of the historic medieval city of laguardia. The hotel owner 'javier' is a man on a mission. His mission is to make you stay in his 10... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A castle from the begining of the 19th century and restored in 1996. It has ten rooms and each one is named after an influential person of Laguardia and the Kingdom of Navarra. The decoration of the castle is an example of good taste and sobriety, not missing the fine elegance that enraptures visitors, who come here to spend their time in this idyllic and harmounious paradise with beautiful views full of the local colour. There are three very old function rooms decorated with Arabian ceramics and handcrafted coffered ceiling from the beginning of the 19th century worthy of note. Your expectations to enjoy the extensive menu of traditional dishes from the Basque and La Rioja cuisine will come true. The symphony of light from these handcrafted rooms will leave you with a feeling of tranquility and appreciation of art. ... more   less
