I would describe this as a walkers hostel. Excellent location for walking and it's clean. When were having breakfast I said to my parter, well this is 'cheap and cheerful', to which he replied,'we'll it's cheap'. The customer service of the bloke on reception could also do with some training. Getting there after a long drive and asking him if... More

My partner and I have different opinions about Once Brewed. I have stayed in youth hostels in ten countries over the last 35 years. Stayed in some great ones. Once Brewed YHA is not one of the great ones. To put it into context: Once Brewed YHA is one of England's first hostels and is about to be completely re... More

Not the best place I've ever stayed, but you get what you pay for. The rooms are small and a little damp, it needs some serious updating, but everything is kept perfectly clean. For a little extra you can have a private room too, if you don't feel like sharing. You'll get a cold shower in the morning, but this... More

Stayed two nights on cycling trip along Hadrians Wall. Will return with my partner. Friendly, good food with wide choice of food , beer and wine. Prices amazing. Comfy bunks. Clean and free WiFi for YHA members

Stayed there for 1 night when visiting Hadrians wall. not the first time we stayed in YHA's (not this one) but this one was disappointing. room was very hot and impossible to sleep. creeky beds kept me awake all night when my son turned over in his sleep. horrible dirty smell in the corridor and lounge with sticky floor. sick!... I have stayed in many hostels for many years, including YHA. Staff at this one welcoming and general cleanliness good. But limited shower and WC facilities (all shared) when all beds full. We had a double room which was private, though very basic, and not that cheap compared to B&B (breakfast extra £5 at YHA). Dorm beds more reasonably priced.... More

I have to admit, I was intrigued by the name, Once-brewed. This is a hostel, meaning it is basic with shared facilities. The bathrooms were clean as were the rooms. My friend and I were able to get a private double, quite good. We were also pleasantly surprised that we could get a beer and a meal here. I booked... More

This is a Youth Hostel, but it had a better shower than some B&B's we paid twice this for. Remember your towels, and remember that everything is extra. Older facility, but still serviceable. Washing machine, dryer, and drying room were very handy. Everyone very helpful. Great location for Hadrian's Wall attractions and activities. Other guests were also well behaved and... More

My first experience of YHA accommodation and I was very impressed. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming, especially Laura who deserves a gold medal for going the extra mile (and that's not a Roman one!!)! It was an absolutely atrocious evening when I checked in with torrential rain, thunder, lightning. Lots of people looking for shelter that had... More

Once Brewed is ideally located near Hadrians Wall, next door is the local information centre. The Twice Brewed pub is within one hundred yards of the YHA and is perfect for an evening meal and frothy pint. The hostel has warm showers, however it is a long walk down the corridors. There is a good hearty breakfast and also an... More
