First time we have stayed in a Youth Hostel and we were pleased with our decision. Very good value for money. Functional and clean with decent mattresses. Shower facilities ok-plenty of hot water. We didn't have meals so can't comment. Fantastic location!!

We stayed at the YHA Once Brewed for 3 nights in August, bed were incredibly comfortable. V.close to a good section of Hadrian's Wall - walking distance to Sycamore Gap (the iconic tree in Robin Hood Price of Thieves) Good selection of food and cooking facilities were good The hostel is just about to under-go renovation so hoping for some... I Stayed Mon-Fri and my very first stay at a Once Brewed YHA, on arrival I made myself a member online for £15 per year so my stay was reduced to £7 per night, excellent bed with clean sheets & quilt, kitchen with all facilities to cook, microwaves, toasters, ovens, fridges etc, tv lounge and ample parking. Excellent location within... More

Really enjoyed our stay, made to feel most welcome. Please bear in mind this is a youth hostel; it's clean and functional, what you expect - great but not five star, it's not meant to be. We had a four bunk room, loads of space and storage for our gear.

Having heard that the hostel will be re-built in a few months I won't comment too much on the building and facilities, needless to say the number of showers and toilets for the number of visitors isn't enough. Staff were fine and helpful. Breakfast was a bit disappointing. You can have seven items, but only one of each. I only... More

There were 4 of us in a small room, our 4 bunks took most of the room. It was a challenge to find floor space for our large suitcase and 2 backpacks. Beds were super creaky, and pillows were thin. Absolutely appreciated the food service and willingness on the part of the staff to give suggestions and answer questions. Would... More

This is one of the YHA's oldest hostels (1934 I think it said) and it is in need of some care and attention. I believe they are going to build a new hostel so maybe explains the fact they haven't spent a lot of money maintaining an older building. The room was ok, the usual standard and clean. The shower... This hostel will be closed from 11 September (site being developed) which may explain my negative experience. The good things: well placed for doing two fantastic walks near the Wall - to Walwick and Greenhead. Also, next door to National Park Centre (lots of useful info). Friendly staff, a large dining room, hooks in room 1 (some dorms in hostels... More

and that's not just us hikers, but the YHA also. Serviceable, but worn down. The room smelled a bit funny, but was clean. The beds creaked and groaned as if to collapse (old wooden bunks with loose bolts). On the plus side, there was a drying room for wet gear (we'd been caught out in the rain) and a washer... More

A group of us stayed in June after the second leg of cycling the Hadrian's Cycleway. It is reached by a series of very steep hills, so get your practise in. The hostel was reasonably comfortable, although it could do with more showers. Additionally, communication of our booking seemed problematic, as our room allocation list, which was sent in advance,... More
