This is a very personal review because I acknowledge this hotel may not be everyone's 'verre de vin'. We first stayed at Hotel de France in 1991 when the current owner's parents ran the hotel, and have now stayed there over 20 times. Since then, there has been a series of evolutionary changes to the establishment - rooms have been... More

Used for an overnight stay and our room was disappointing - bed comfortable but decor very tired and needing an update plus it was obviously a smoking room - it smelt terrible. On the plus side the staff were very friendly and the restaurant was excellent.

A typical ** star Logis but with lots of Britsh Motor Sport History. In the '50's and 60's teams like Aston Martin lodged here, parked their Le Mans cars in the car park and drve them of to race on race days.Hundreds of Motor Sport phots everywhere. The likes of Stirling Moss and Graham Hill stayed in the little bedrooms... More

We've used this hotel twice now for a stopover en-route to the Channel Ports and on both occasions have found it to be friendly, welcoming and offering everything that we wanted. The rooms are large, airy and have very modern en-suites/toilets with a typical French decor. Prices are very good for what you get although it does pay to book... More

We have stayed at this lovely traditional hotel for many years now. It always provides a very reliable stopover at the start of our holiday. The rooms are comfortable and the food is very good. The area is interesting and worth exploring if you have the time.

This used to be our favourite hotel in France. After our most recent stay we will never go back. We have stayed at the hotel regularly since 1987. We spent some of our honeymoon there in 1991. Even when not staying we have visited the restaurant, or just spent time on the patio watching the world go by. We went... More

A perfect place to break the journey from the channel ports to the south-west. Our spacious and comfortable room was complete with the usual French 2star small cubicle for shower, wash-basin and lavatory, all perfectly clean and everything worked. The welcome was warm and with a genuine desire to please. When we entered the bar we were asked if we... More

The Hotel de France in La Chartre sur le loir is a lovely traditional 2star family run establishment with a very good restaurant. For any fan of motor sport this Hotel is a must see. The Hotel de France was used as a base for John Wyre’s British Motor Sport Teams competing in the Le Mans 24hrs, from the 1950’s... More
