The George is located in the centre of the quaint little market town of Castle Cary, opposite the Market Hall. The are various seating areas if you are simply sampling one of the fine ales on offer, including a lovely bar at the front of the building with a huge fire. Accommodation and food are available at reasonable rates. Well... More

We booked a night at the George to celebrate an anniversary. We had booked a meal in the restaurant but changed to the bistro as it was busier. The meal was very good, a veggy dish for my wife and venison for me, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Our room, in one of the converted cottages, was... More

Went for dinner last night to The George , complete disaster , Poor service and food was poor , the restaurant was cold and the waitress was very slow . Management need to look into staffing levels . We were told that the owner is now running another pub in Monteque so perhaps he feels its not worth the time... More

This hotel and restaurant is in the middle of a very quaint village and is a perfect place to stay when breaking a trip from London to the West Country. Nothing too special but spacious room with four poster, well equipped but plumbing a bit old and the room fragrancer was very over the top and bad on the throat.... More

As a party of 15 senior walkers, we found the hotel staff friendly, helpful and obliging on all occasions. Our rooms were clean and beds comfy and more than adequate for a weekend away with friends. The food (dinners) were excellent in both quality and presentation and met with the approval of all 15 of our group. The breakfasts were... More

Worst room I've ever seen. Totally outdated en dirt everywhere. Hairs of dogs, hairs of humans, brown stains on toilet door, stains on sheets. Some reviews call this hotel cosy, but we did not get that. Very impolite owner, does not listen to any complaint. Think twice before you check in, the place you have to check in should warn... More

As a party of 4 we visited this hotel for the Sunday steak night. The surroundings are pleasant (homely?) in a good location in this charming little town. Reservation was easy and we were made welcome on arrival and this continued into the service provided which was very good. Sadly the steaks were of mixed quality; two were very acceptable,... More

Beautiful old hotel with comfy sofas and a lovely restaurant with an excellent choice of classy meals. My room was large and had the most amazing, room wide, leather quilted headboard - luxury. The bathroom was large, modern and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful - so much so that the chef gave me a free lift to... More

We booked two rooms here for a two night stay. Our rooms were not in the main building but off the courtyard. They were very nice too! Plenty of room, large bathroom and big sofa and a lovely four poster bed. Parking was a bit tight in the car park but we were ok to leave the motor parked at... More
