After our third visit to Tokyo, my husband and I decided to stay in a ryokan. We found the review on Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu. What you see is what you get! The booking was fast and no hassle, the room was clean and the ambience was serene. It's a nice ryokan, a combination of tradition and modern ryokan that just... More

After much trepidation on booking a ryokan that i had no knowledge about and could find very little information regarding the lodging (apart from their own website), i booked anyway. I am so very happy that I did, as the lodgings were fantastic! The staff are very friendly and ever-so-helpful. The ryokan itself is in very good condition, and the... More

Great, safe location one block off the main market in Asakusa. The rooms are small, but very new and clean (the entire Ryocan is new & clean!). We had a western style room, but never used the shower...it was too relaxing to use the japanese bath on the top floor! Daily housekeeping was outstanding (and you do get clean towels... More

We were very happy with this ryokan, booked as a result of reading the reviews on this site. We had 2 nights in a Japanese triple room, 2 nights in the larger suite. The 1st room was small but well appointed, the suite much more spacious and relaxing if you can afford it. The 2 year old travelling with us... More

And thank you, all the Trip Advisor contributors whose reviews led us to select Ryokan Shigetsu for our Tokyo stay. Being at the ryokan made a big contribution to our enjoyment of Tokyo -- it is beautiful, friendly, comfortable and very, very Japanese. We stayed for 10 days in October, 4 in a small Japanese-style room, and 6 in the... More

Just returned from an extended 5 day stay at the Ryokan Shigetsu in Asakusa, Tokyo. This is still the one place I would recommend for a comfortable, well-located and most importantly, very affordable authentic Japanese inn in this exciting but expensive city. The staff are very accommodating in every respect. They allowed my business colleague to remain working in his... More

Staying at this ryokan is a brilliant experince Traditionally Japanese, but with a very modern attitude from the staff. Very welcoming and good quality accommodation. Easy to reach any part of Tokyo as it is close to the underground and to the railway terminus from Narita airport. I will alwyas stay here in Tokyo and higjly recommend it.

Comfortable hotel on a quiet street a few minutes walk from Asakusa market, metro, & good restaurants. Room was small, bathroom tiny, but all was clean. Staff fluent in English & helpful. A surprising extra: hotel will launder socks & underwear same day & free of charge.

Fabulous place. It is tucked away, but with the directions and a good map it`s fairly easy to find even when jet lagged and very hot! The Japanese style rooms are great, as are the communal baths. Oddly enough they`re a good way to meet people and swap stories about where to go in the city. The staff were friendly... More

My fiance and I stayed here for 5 nights in March/April 2007. Tokyo is so big that it can be difficult to decide where to stay, but we chose this Ryokan because of the good reviews on Tripadvisor and the fact that it is located in an older, more traditional part of Tokyo. We were definitely not disppointed. I will... More
