We stayed here last year (bit late with the review..) for a week and it was perfect. Typical Japanese rooms with nice little freebies each day, the breakfast downstairs was delicious and can highly recommend it (it's a traditional Japanese breakfast). The staff are very helpful and helped us with luggage forwarding service to our Kyoto hotel, also the clothes... More

Ok the 5 stars is not about the cavernous rooms, the gorgeous indoor pool or the complimentary Champagne on arrival, because you get none of that. What you get is an A1 location being close to the Ueno train station[where most of the Shinkansens stop and links to the major underground lines] as well as the station that takes the... More

good location and cheap price. it is really in a walking distance to the Ueno station which is a major interchange to go to many other places in Tokyo and the airports. the facilities and room are fairly good compared to room prices and tokyo standards i would consider visiting this hotel when i have trip to tokyo again.

Very close to Ueno ameyoko which was my intention during the stay. Room is very small but cant complain for the price. One thing is the hotel staff service is not bad and was grateful for their help to arrange taxi to airport. Toilet in my opinion was small so for big size person, the toilet will be cramp.

As expected a tiny room but so well planned that we could have stayed a lot longer than our 7 nights without a risk of cabin fever. Quiet, convenient to station with multiple connections including variety of shinkansen destinations and skyliner to Narita. Good cafes and restaurants in easy walking distance, washing machine and dryer, comfortable bed, silent sleep, helpful... More

This hotel is well hidden behind some buildings and away from main roads. Staffs were friendly and helpful. A free laundrette, at the back of the ground (first) floor, is provided for guest use. We 'landed' at the Touganeya for our first 3 nights of a 3 week trip to Japan. Hotel staff was very helpful and spoke better English than we expected. Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighborhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
