Location is great for first time Tokyo travellers. It took a bit over an hour to get there from Narita with Keisei Skyliner to Ueno. Tokyo Metro station and JR Yamanote station are a few minutes walk from the hotel. Hotel is easy to find with the instructions you get from the hotel and you can use Google street view... more

Nestled in the relaxed neighborhood of Ueno, just 2 blocks from a major subway and train station, the New Izu Hotel is perfectly located. Add to that an incredibly friendly staff who bend over backwards to add little touches and make the trip enjoyable, then add in excellently sized rooms with incredibly great bathrooms and good accomodations. At its moderate... more

I have stayed at the New Izu hotel for twice in the past 2 years as part of a large group visiting Tokyo and i plan to return to this great hotel. The Japanese style rooms are really great, way more room compared to the western but without the luxury of a real bed. The futons in the Japanese style... more

I stayed in New Izu Hotel twice, in 2007 and 2008. Very good placed, close to Ueno Station. Rooms are very small, but clean and comfortable. Japanese-style are much better, as in small western-style rooms, having furniture, there is not any place to open your luggage other than on the bed :) In Japanese-style rooms also baths are bigger and... more

We stayed at New Izu Hotel for a total of 5 nights at the beginning of December 2008. We would happily recommend it to anyone else traveling on a budget. We had three types of rooms; a single, double and a quad. The single and double were small but the quad was reasonably sized. The rooms were clean and well... more

I booked this hotel for 5 days over Christmas almost exclusively because of the recent reviews I had read on this website and I was not disappointed! I made my reservation via email on the New Izu website. I got an immediate email response with options for "Western" twin rooms available when I was to be in Tokyo, including ACCURATE... more

I chose the New Izu with my usual method of checking Tripadvisor in order of preference and then seeing what is cheap. Between trying that last week and writing this now, I see the rating has gone down a bit. There must be a lot of near-equivalent hotels in the area. I got a shared-bath room and it was bigger... more

The New Izu Hotel in Ueno was a great value for sightseeing in Tokyo. I stayed there for a total of 5 nights and would happily recommend it to anyone else traveling on a budget. The staff is courteous and friendly, speaks English, and will do what they can to make your stay a pleasant one. The rooms are probably... more

izu is an old but well-maintained hotel around 15 minutes walk from ueno station which is very convenient as the station connects you to practically every part of tokyo. the area itself is quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of central tokyo but not totally devoid of shops and restaurants. ueno park and ameyoko shopping street is just around... more
