On my last night in Tokyo, after staying the rest of my stay in a big modern Western-style hotel in busy Shinjuku, I wanted to stay in a more traditional style ryokan to have the experience of the tatami mat room and sleeping on the futon. This was a great opportunity to do so in an affordable way, while recognizing... more

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Situated in a very quaint neighbourhood with easy access to the airport and central Tokyo. Staff were all helpful and friendly. Room was a great size (in comparison to most Japanese places) and very quiet. Free internet access and laundry to use (about 500 yen in total for full wash and dry) and breakfast option... more

Based on the reviews in TA we decided to stay at this "traditional" ryokan. There is a lot of good things to say about this hotel. It is very convenient to airport transportation, the place is spotlessly clean, the neighborhood is more working class than traditional, it is close to many points of interest, around the corner from a subway... more

Fantastic ryokan in a great location, a quiet neighbourhood central to both the Sendagi subway and the JR Nippori stations, making it easy to get around Tokyo. Clean, modern, and your own ensuite. more

This is the cleanest place I have ever stayed in! A little tricky to find in the beginning but once you find your feet you will love exploring the area. The room was immaculate, quite small but very comfortable. The service from the reception staff was very helpful pointing out little restaurants to eat at and places to explore. If... more

we booked this accom based on trip advisor and was everything we wanted for our japanese stay. Arriving at 8:30am we were delighted to be told that our room would be ready in half an hour - great service. We covered every district in Tokyo and found this hotel to be in such a quiet and quaint district with real... more

We chose this place from the reviews on Tripadvisor, but were still surprised of how new and elegant it was. The architecture is almost europan, with wooden floors, steel, glass and stone. This mixes very well with japanese simplicity. You sleep japanse style, on futons on a raised, tatami mat-covered floor. But all rooms are ensuite, you have well working... more

I booked this for a solo trip to Tokyo after reading all the glowing reviews on Trip Advisor, and I have to say this place deserves them. I stayed in a single room and paid 6,300 yen per night, which is a steal in Tokyo. The room was small, but just enough for a solo traveler like me. There was... more

I just got back from Tokyo where I stayed at Annex Katsutaro for about 9 days. It's a charming ryokan located in a very quaint section of Tokyo called Yanaka. It's an easy walk from either the JR Nippori station (maybe 10 minutes) or from Tokyo Metro's Chiyoda line, Sendagi station (maybe 5 minutes). The walk from Nippori station to... more

This ryokan was wonderful! The bed was soft, the room was incredibly cool (being traditional Japanese-style), and the service from the staff was excellent. Annex Katsutaro Ryokan is located in a great shitamachi district (traditional Tokyo) that's removed from all the crowds and intensity. However, it's close enough to the subway and JR Railway that one has no trouble going... more
