We stayed here for 3 nights when we first arrived in Tokyo. The Ryokan is clean and comfortable with nice, clean rooms. Although we had a room without a bathroom the toilets were opposite our room and very clean. There was also a private sink in the entrance of the room. We never saw anybody else use those facilities or... More

This was our first Ryokan experience and it was a great first experience. Compared to an American B&B and hotel this definitely ranks up there for one of the best home away from home experiences we have had. We arrived into Tokyo at the tail end of a typhoon so instead of trying to trek the 25 minutes from Ueno... More

Damn, lost my wifi connection and the saved draft did not include my comments. This is a great place. Friendly, welcoming staff (thanks!) with some English. Clean, well-run place. Good location - close to subway or 20 min walk to JR station on useful Yamamote line (less by bus). Area has great character. Baths (2 of them) can be used... More

I had a memorable and extremely pleasant stay for 3 nights in Ryokan Sawanoya. The ryokan is not located at a premium location (most instances, you would need to transfer to the Chiyoda subway & it's just 2 stops away). It is a short 7 mins walk from the subway, with several convenience stores & eateries on the way to... More

Enjoyed the peace and quiet of this Ryokan. This family run business offers impeccable cleanliness, quality service and help whenever you ask for it. This was our first experience visiting Tokyo. Thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese bath. Stayed here seven nights and would highly recommend it. It is a lovely stroll to the station, shops, temples and the University. Will definitely be... More

We stayed in Ryokan Sawanoya for 6 nights. Our room was clean and spacious. The hosts were humble, helpful and charming. The area in which Sawanoya is located is laid back by busy Tokyo standards. It is calm and friendly but the buzzy city is easily accessible. If you need advice about where to go and how to get there,... More

I have stayed here many times. It is my automatic choice whenever I am in Tokyo, most recently earlier this month. It offers unbeatable value. I always get a small single room without bath. I like this best because Japanese hotel bathrooms are always really tiny anyway, and the ryokan has two very nice Japanese baths that are perfect for... More

I just stayed here a few days ago and have to say it was a very comfortable stay. The rooms were clean and had good space for storage. You get complimentary tea. The lobby provided many pamphlets and free drinks. The family was very helpful with directions and made sure you knew where you were going. For those who picture... More

If you are looking for a comfortable, clean, friendly, authentically Japanese place to stay in Tokyo, please choose Ryokan Sawanoya! It is a family-run inn, with a long history of serving both Japanese (in the 50s and 60s) and foreigners (since the 80s if I remember correctly). Beautifully updated/new 'onsen' (shared bath/shower rooms) with small view of Japanese garden. The... More

My nephew and I stayed at the the ryokan last week and after a long day's tour of Tokyo it was great to be able to head back to a calm place each night. The place is located in a quiet residential area and a ten minute walk from the Nezu subway stop. Our room was smallish and we had... More
