My fiance and I stay here for 1 night in July 2012. We wanted something centrally located, clean, authentically Japanese and fairly priced. We definitely got everything we wanted! The hotel was about a 10 minutes walk to the Ueno subway station and very clean. The woman running the ryokan was very nice. It was a very peaceful stay and... More

Location might be a 15min from Ueno station, requiring you to walk through Ueno Park and along the zoo. We were lost initially but found the Ryokan after some effort. First impression of the ryokan was that it was really small but the room was great! Spacious with ensuite that was clean and wasn't reeking of smells or any sign... More

Pros: location is central. Easy to reach from various subway stations. Rooms are big, clean and comfortable, same for bathroom. Cheaper than a hotel. The only minor downfall is that it's not a real traditional ryokan (compared to what we experienced at ryokans in Kyoto and Nara), but more of a guesthouse. But still, it's a very convenient and cheap... More

I stayed there 4 nights in early February. For my first visit to Japan I wanted to stay in a traditional Japanese inn, and I wasn't disappointed. The rooms were very nice, with tatami and futon beds, and quite a lot of space. Our room didn't have private bath (some do I think), but the shared facilities were nice and... More

I am normally a budget traveller so staying in this ryokan was a little expensive for me but it was truly worth it! - The location Ueno was the perfect place for me because it was quiet and had easy transport links. You are a 15 min slow walk from the station. Ueno station had a direct link from Narita... More

My family of 3 stayed in Tokyo during the week of Christmas, 4 nights. The place is clean and comfortable, reasonably priced. The room that we are staying is spacious (I travel to Tokyo often on business trip and have stayed in numerous business hotels in Tokyo) and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Slight set back is the distance.... More

We had promised my son we would take him to Japan for a couple of years but time has been difficult to arrange . We had just one week to give him a look at Tokyo and its environs. He had expressed a preference for staying at a Ryokan and my wife did the research. Ryokan Katsutaro ticked all the... More

We decided on this place after much thought, and figured that the location and the hope of something less bland than a business hotel would make a decent choice. THE ROOM: Our perceptions of Japanese rooms was that they are all very small and cramped. We were pleasantly surprised at Katsutaro. I think it was a 6 tatami room. There... More

My family of 4 had a nice stay at Ryokan Katsutaro. The place is kept clean and has a "homey" feel. The free use of computers was helpful when I need to research on places of interest. I would recommend taking a short cab ride (cost about 700 yen) from Keisei Train station when you have lots of luggages. I... More

Conveniently located near Ueno station, this Ryokan offers beautiful rooms that are over and above anything you'd find in a hotel or hostel for the same value. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the whole place almost feels as if you are staying in someone's house which is an unexpected pleasure so far from home. The Japanese style beds... More
