I've traveled to 30+ countries, and last week I stayed at this hostel. While it has a lot of potential, it could have been better.... Issue with loud families and small children in the dorm: The staff allowed a family to checkin and stay in the same dorm room that I was staying in, even though they had small children.... More

This is probably the best looking hostel you will ever stay in! It's beautiful!!!! The beds are super cosy and the bar and kitchen are a hipster's dream! The staff are lovely! It's a bit out of the way (about 25mins from Shinjuku / shibuya! ) and it's not a party hostel (you won't find fun Aussies to hang with... More

Very nice place and staff. Hostel have a traditional style and breakfast. People there are nice and free drinks are awesome! Ifyou are looking for a good place and a good price so go to this place!!! The location is good, near Ueno, and you can use the JR Pass to get the Light blue or light green subway line.

Fabulous place & super lovely staff. I had amazing experience staying in Toco. I lived in the female dorm, and u definitely could have you own private area just pull up the curtain. The staff there are so friendly so that makes you feel like home. Although that is a little bit noisy due to the old house construction, that... More

Stayed in female dorm, good value, beautiful hostel with garden and spacious common areas. Close to subway and yummy bakery as well as two sentos (Japanese baths). Wifi was a bit slow and the hostel can be noisey at night as it is an old house but will definitely recommend this hostel to friends and family. Very clean as well.... More

Toco has the friendliest and most enthusiastic, lovely hosts ever. They are full of useful tips, are very helpful and are always so excited to hear about your day. I have made some lifelong friends at Toco! The hostel itself is a traditional Japanese house adjacent to a new build (which has the bar/living area and staff room). The interior... More

We really enjoyed the garden and the traditional layout...may be cheesy for others. We stayed in the dorm room. Rooms were clean so were showers and toilets. Wifi worked well. Staff all very friendly and gave you a quick rundown and your own map about what's around the hostel. The ramen place was pretty good! Not too much socializing in... More

Value for price, beautiful japanese garden, cheerful bar (people in the neighborhood actually visit the bar despite not being booked at the hostel), traditional architecture, good shower, clean bathroom, awesome wi-fi, silent at 23 sharp. Some of my travel companions regarded the traditional style of the hostel to be a problem due to the slight creaking from floorboards. Being our... More

I only stayed here one night but I wish I'd stayed more. Very conveniently located and the staff were so nice. Such a good atmosphere too. Was able to enjoy a free drink at the bar and met a lot of interesting people. Rooms were beautiful, comfortable and quiet. Quite a change from the backpacking hostels where I stayed, where... More
